Anybody know which locos will be working the Santa Specials this weekend?

 

I believe the loco's penciled in are 92212 & 76017.

But obviously things may change.

 

92212 was certainly in service on Sunday, if that's any help. Which it doubtless isn't!

 

Reading Steam Railway magazine today. Once the boiler ticket expires on 92212 June 2019. The boiler from 92245 will be overhauled and placed on 92212.

 

According to the latest Mid Hants News, the annual exam is due in February and it is stated that the railway may not put the loco through the strip down and certification process for what amounts to little more than 4-5 months use before the 10 year certificate expires. As regards the boiler swap that seems like a good plan, it sounds from what the LSL spokesman says that the overhaul of the spare boiler should be relatively straightforward and fairly quick. .

 

If that's the case (and I have no reason to question it if it's in the MH News), then possibly the last chance to savour the big beasty will be the Christmas Leave / End of Dec to 1st Jan Season finale.

Will she be coming back to the MHR after overhaul? The report in SR says that she is going to Crewe for overhaul next year. I guess this is because LSL now have their own works. Previous overhauls were carried out at Ropley.
I am hoping to visit over the Christmas holiday so will try to get some miles in behind the 9F. We are also on the dining train on the 15th December. I wonder if she will be hauling this?

Or any work being carried out between Medstead and Alton while the line is cut?

Enjoy that - 't will be my first turn at Alresford, so if a young lad fluffs something up and gets told off by the P.I.C... You know who to complain to the management about!

 

I hope it goes well for you. Don't worry about it. My family always enjoys the evening out even when things don't quite go to plan. For example on our first Christmas dining train experience my Mum ended up with wine in her lap as it got knocked over by one of the stewards. It didn't dampen her spirits and she still enjoyed the evening.
On two other occasions we got stuck on Medstead bank, when 41312 slipped to a stand and when 73096 did the same and we had to wait to be rescued. Everyone on the train still enjoyed themselves.
