Now that's a sight for sore eyes, a "streak" chiming through Donny on the fast line. :Finger:

Can really feel the wind and rain buffeting the east side of the train. No9 taking it all in its stride. GPS max around 78 between Retford and Newark. Wonderful.

Hopefully it will be contributing 0% of the tractive effort and making 60009 work that bit harder. There's a five minute gap between service trains at Hitchin with 60009 in the middle of it so hopefully all will be on time and I won't get bowled.

Currently running 16 early since we missed out Claypole loop. Superb run from Rainskill loop. Just a pity they did not put us on the fast down Stoke.

Does anyone know if the Conington stop is a water stop?

I've never known a steam tour to stop at Conington and it not be a planned water stop.

In very challenging conditions some of the worst I've been out in for night mainline steam No 9 at full regulator through Newark Northgate. Most fortunate to bag the shot with the 1S26 London KX-Edinburgh breathing down my neck running 17 minutes late it was a press of the shutter and bowled out. With the dire conditions I had to retreat the the station canopy to get some shelter and not my usual spot down at the far end of platform 1 but this move further up the platform bagged the shot.

Got my sound recording at Hitchin. No local trains to bother me as a tree down at Royston and also on the up slow at Arlesey had caused major delays and cancellations. 1E24 was also badly delayed so the A4 passed through in splendid isolation. The fallen tree at Arlesey had put the A4 on the up main so was looking forward to a full bore thrash on the rising gradient. Even with 1E24 miles behind, 60009 was switched to the up slow north of the station instead of at Stevenage - which the A4 reached some 7 minutes ahead of 1E24 so she could have stayed on the main through Hitchin. As it was she was accelerating hard as she passed me, sparks flying, the cab aglow and the 33 contributing little or no effort. The southerly wind carried the sound back to me for several minutes as she attacked the climb towards Stevenage. A magical experience.

That would explain why the track map on Open Train Times showed the words 'TREE' and 'NOGO' either side of platform 1 at Arlesey then!
