Not really like Blackpool; the only similarity is of decorated trains and not trams. However, there is a major difference. Illuminated trams compete with street lighting and its accompanying tableau plus lights from shops and other structures. This train runs though mostly unlit countryside so the lighting lights up the woods and embankments, reflects on the sea and river. Torbay and the River Dart is are a bonus, as night time adds to the magic. All in all quite spectacular.
As all the journeys were quickly sold out I suspect many passengers spoke highly of it to friends and acquaintances.

PS: I guess Evening Star put it far better than I did. She travelled some distance to ride the train.

  2. You're right. I travelled from Sherborne to travel on the Tuesday and braved the cold on Thursday to video from the lineside. Well worth the petrol I'd say! Magical.

There are also four overbridges, but you need cars, ideally to get to them. They are at Three Beaches (near St. Georges Church), Bascombe Road (he approach to Churston station) and two along Greenway Road (past Churston station and you would ideally need a torch).

They came to an arrangement to exchange SDR's 37 and DSR's 25. It was considered better for both lines.

Is the 37 needed to provide the power for the lights?

Neither the vac pipe or coupling are good at transmitting electricity .More useful at assisting the Std4 and dragging the train into Kingswear when Std 4 taken off to change ends.

Noticed on companies house that the railway has changed from plc to Ltd and Andrew Pooley is no longer the director.

Assume changes are to do with growth of the operation and retirement?

A Limited company is smaller than a PLC.

Probably more to do with Mr Hosking buying into the railway.
