    Maybe when the restoration was taking place at Shildon, it was discovered that the loco was really 4491.

    Even if there was I doubt any publicly owned British institution would want the liability of another A4.

    But would another A4 add to what we already have?

    Now on the other hand the Swanage Railways acquisition of the T3 and plans to return it to steam mean that we will have a rare opportunity to travel behind a late Victorian locomotive on a line formerly owned by the company that built it.

    In the same way there are a large number of loco's that have steamed in the early days of preservation that are quite unlike what is in general use on most preserved lines at the moment and putting them back in steam would greatly add to the 'Heritage Railway' experience - to say nothing of course of some of those that have not steamed in preservation.

    Dont get me started on carriages!

    He’s deleted the post now I’ve just looked through the group, there’s a couple of threads about a UK engine being purchased. But nothing that offers anything other than vague speculation, his was the only post that mentioned DOC.

    The more likely eventual decision would be to release Waddon which has no obvious connection and lacks the historical association that DoC has, whether there would be any group prepared to invest is a question, it would seen sensible to have a long date tender to maximise the return for their own national restorations.
    As both these locos escaped the scrapper thanks to Canada good luck to any tender raising funds for their projects.
