Bill you must of been one of the chaps I was talking to this afternoon in the side road that goes to the bus station.
I went back down there after dinner at the hotel around 8.00pm they were still working on trying to re-rail the class 08 and at about 8.20pm / 8.25pm with the help of the Class25 it was back on the rails and under it's own power moved into the shed. =D> Well done to the P&DSR chaps & I believe Tuffer was one of the staff that was helping to re-rail it ? :-#
They seemed to be terminating trains at Goodrington this afternoon as at around 5.30pm I have on video 5239 using the loop there be it from a distance (were the foot path joins Youngs Park Road). Is this one of the first times a steam loco has used this loop I wonder ?
Also some how 5239 was back at Paignton tonight under the coal stage before they moved the Class 08 that must have been tight move !

I would like to confirm yes Tuffer was in amongst the many staff who had all rushed to Samsons aid :-$ :-#

I do believe they have 3 cranes 2 of which are the new hydraulic ones which im not sure are capable of lifting and the long yellow one capable of lifting 10 ton and the little yellow one. Isn't an 08 around 50 Tons?? from memory of stats.

I also think that the D3014 and D2192 and I believe 5239 have been through the new loop at Goodrington, Although I do know D2192 was the first to test it, but 5239 is probably the first to officially use it on a service train. It could also possibly be a sign of things to come when the work is done on Paignton Station. It could also possibly be the sign of even greater things and obviously works.

Looks like work has started at Goodrington. Picture taken 10 Sept.

From this view, the 'Goodrington avoiding line' is clear to see.
My research shows that the 'avoider' is not in fact new. I believe the old one was removed around 1956. Don't know if anyone can shed any more light on that.

I think it was removed when it was downsized as the Turntable was removed mentioned earlier but I would have to check.

Is the avoiding line designed for through services from Paignton like the Torbay Express?

I believe this is one of it's eventual uses yes. It is also apparently going to be used as a runround loop when services terminate at Goodrington when Paignton is being worked on

No I'm sure it was removed well before that Scorpion. I'm pretty sure it wasn't in place in 1960.

With regards to it's use, yes I've heard that specials may use that route.
Not sure yet though whether both up and down platform lines are being retained.

    Regards
    Steve

Now that two train running is over and with more staff available, I understand that work as now starting on developing the Goodrington site. A three road loco shed is to be built, each road should be able to hold 9 carriages, a further road will run along outside the shed. "B C" is the project manager

Ah so is that also to relieve the Paignton shed as well as providing permanent cover? Is paignton being remodelled?
