So once again we find 92212 carrying the bulk of the service do we?

I'm hoping 92212 is on duty for New Years Day, and possibly for that matter 41312.

I recall that the 47/7s replaced the 50s before the Waterloo - Exeter and Salisbury services went over to the 159s.

For example 47 703 went from Scotland to OC to EH, according to this it went from Scotrail to parcels livery with no NSE in between http://www.class47.co.uk/c47_numbers.php?s_loco=47703# same as 47 712

47 712 is I think one of the few preserved 47/7s which did work the Exeter line so it’d be appropriate.

47/4s were normally on the Cross Country services in the 80s. So you’d have a variety of things in the area in various liveries. I don’t recall ever seeing a Scotrail liveried loco but that doesn’t mean it didn’t happen.

I was supposed to be on the 10.50 yesterday. Frustrating but at least I finally got to go on the Hampshire Unit, which I've always wanted to do. Very comfy seats and I do enjoy the sound of it's engine.

My video from Saturday of the 9F in service. Despite the absence of Cheltenham, or the first train out of Alton, it was an enjoyable day where some quick thinking meant that more trains weren't cancelled - and that the Alton Set didn't spend all day unheated behind the 47! Thanks to all involved.

I can't wait to see the shots that you and the others got at Butts Junction this evening, Dave - All I managed was a video that is little more than a sound recording. And even that only really begins at 3:45.

Those detenators, or (more accurately) the Medstead signalman putting the Alton - Medstead Key Token back into the machine in Medstead 'Box, marks the beginning of the closure period and the busiest time Medstead and Four Marks Station will have ever seen in its 151 year history.

Gutted I wasn't able to visit today for the final runs over the old bridge. Caught some nasty virus at the weekend. Spent the last two days in bed with lovely periods of throwing up in between. Didn't have much luck at all with visiting the MHR over the Christmas holiday. We came down on Boxing Day but went home again as both car parks were full at Alresford with no spaces becoming vacant while we were there.

While 47715 entered service out of Paddington still in ScotRail livery, it was in Revised NSE livery by April 1992. 47706, also still in ScotRail livery, was a regular performer on the Waterloo-Exeter route during 1991 / 92 and 93, last observed in April 1993. It was still carrying ScotRail livery when scrapped in August 1995. 47579, which is currently based at the Mid-Hants, also worked on the Waterloo-Exeter route.
47706 is shown here at Waterloo, with the 17:15 to Exeter on 31st October 1992. 2019-01-01-0016.jpg

41312 setting off a det as she passes over soon-to-be -demolished bridge 52 with the ECS for Ropley. (Please note we were invited to take a few shots for the record and all was agreed with the MHR Ops manager beforehand!)

I was there today too and on the last train up to Alton with the Ivatt this evening. The dets and subtle headboard on the loco were a nice touch to mark the occasion. Had a couple of good trips with the 9F and 41312, just a shame the weather turned poo by the time I had got down!

There is usually unlimited free parking in Sun Lane south of Nursury Road. It's only a short walk over Sun Lane bridge, past the picnic area and through the churchyard to the station or town.
    Don't tell anyone else ;)

    Nice photo Dave.

If a green class 47 floats your boat. We could always paint 47579 in to Freightliner green:)

Two shots from the final day of operations of the 2018 season. No.92212 climbs the Alps at Wanders Curve and no.41312 climbs past Northside Lane with the last Alton-bound train until the summer... it was rather fitting then that a break in the clouds happened just at the right time!

As I’m a little unsure of exactly what the plans are at Alton, will the planned work have any impact on the remains (such that they are!) of the original Butts Junction signal box?
