Is it true that when Lizzie was bought and the Trust set up,one of the articles said that when the trust was finished with her, she was to be offered to the NRM and not sold to a private buyer?
I asked this question a lot earlier in this thread but everyone was too busy arguing with each other to give an answer, could someone from the trust let us know if this is true.
Personally I think it's a pity that there isn't an LMS equivalent of STEAM to where she could retire gracefully.

If this is the end for 6201's active life, then at least the old girl went out gracefully. A decent last main line run and not the problems that some have had in the past towards the end of their tickets.

    Regards,

    Dan

I think you should have the balls to come out in the open "polisher" , after all you seem to like naming everyone else and yet again, i say you have a personal axe to grind..........and just to reiterate my dads priorities..........There is only his family that prevail over lizzie, and we jokingly sometimes even question that, If the Heritage had been above lizzie on his list perhaps he would have spent the last 20 years working there, and as for the "anyone can light a fire or polish an engine" where do your talents lie......perhaps dusting off thomas the tank flags on the platform at bury, or even the highly technical task of making the tea for the people that actually know their way round an engine! and thats in NO WAY means to criticsise the honourable chaps/chapesses that do those tasks, just people like yourself who think they know everything that goes on.....and so quite obviousley DONT. :-k

Have heard various rumours over the last few weeks regarding 'Lizzie' and have to say having been told yesterday, from an impeccable source, the manner in which the loco has ended up 'stranded' at Crewe I am absolutely disgusted!
Having been one of the individuals involved in negotiating the deal which saw the group base themselves at the ELR I am not suprised that the locomotive has ended up at Crewe in this way!
Roy Kerry's resignation alone from the group should be sign enough to all outside the actual process to the way this debacle has been handled.....or should I say cleverly directed.
Simply put Roy loved, lived and sweat blood and tears for that engine......more so than any other person I met in the time it was at Bury.
The loco was booked back on the ELR a week last Sunday, 3 days before the ticket expired, to allow the neccessary cold and hot exams to take place. The move was cancelled and Roy wasn't even involved in THAT process...it stinks!
Polisher may bring more 'emotion' to his posts but the fact remains this is a stitch up!

    OK!

The King James version - facts

6201 was due to return straight to Bury after terminating at Crewe on the 30th August as an already paid for scheduled move. The move was cancelled and the ELR staff phoned - on site at Heywood - half an hour before she was due with them, to advise she wasn't coming.

I was previously unaware of that fact and don't intend to stand by the manner of how it was made, or who made it, because it was plain wrong.

Locomotive 6201 Princess Elizabeth Society Ltd (not found as a Registered Charity under that name - but probably effectively and legally a charity because of its aims and constitution) now owns an out of ticket loco stored in the open at Crewe Heritage Centre.

It is understood that the small tubes need renewal, but that with that done - the grant of a further three year ticket is a formality - but the society does not have the necessary funds on tap.

Was it right to leave her somewhere where an under cover home may be available in three months time in those circumstances?? In an abstract world - possibly - but in the context of being able to run - paid for and under her own power, in ticket - to a location where a funding regime and the work could have been put in hand to give her three more years - well you can understand the support crew, the Bury, 6201, Riley and ELR volunteers, and the general enthusiast view that will be taken - that someone got their loyalties and their charity duties badly mixed up and made a bad decision.

I stand by my statement that I was told, and it has been repeated to me, many times since 2002, that at the end of her ticket the society intended all along to retire her - but that end - it now appears did not have to be August 30th 2008.

So there you are - that's what happened. Can the Society rally itself to review that decision - or the position of the people who made it? - Time will tell.

I read somewhere on this site that a small tube is around £35 (depends on the loco I guess). Well, I dont know how many you need for lizzies boiler, but I'll buy one. Who is with me and where do we send the money ?

A quick search reveals this lot - am sure that there must be several other sources of seamless tube in the UK?

  19. I was talking to a owner of a loco last night and was shown a tube that had burst it was a uniform line and was along the weld line the full length of the tube more or less and ordering in the quantities allso was a major issue

No I do not currently volunteer
I'm sure if PELS launched a 'tube appeal' there would be no shortage of suppliers, given the amount and regularity of main line loco overhauls in the UK.
