I know the GWS appealed for expressions of interest in supporting a project, does anyone know if that ever went anywhere?

Edit - Entirely coincidentally I was actually throwing some papers out earlier one of which was the GWS Annual Report up to Jan 2016, (a short root in the bin later) it appears that amongst the restricted funds they have a fund titled 'Dean Bogie Single' so something is at least within the organisation structure for this.

    Hmm. That's encouraging.

(Apologies for steering an LNWR thread in a Swindon direction).

As I understood it at the time a working group was to be put together with an initial view to trying to gather whatever drawings could be found in order to see if enough existed or could be recreated to make the project feasible. Presumably if it is still active it is in that phase at present. Makes sense not to go mad raising funds or making nameplates if it turns out there isn't any way of knowing how to build one.

With the Dean single I'm sure it's the case its in research. Its not just hunting drawings either. There is,, as I understand it, a degree of commonality between the Dean Singles and the outside frame 4-4-0s, (motion notably I believe) so its not just a question of original drawings, but also identifying if any parts for which there are no drawings can be copied from those two. Commented on another thread about making the comparison with the timetable for the railmotor. http://www.national-preservation.co...newbuild-4-2-2-dean-single.39154/#post-529348. Assuming this goes to the same sort of timescale one wouldn't expect any metal cutting for another ten years.

IIRC the chap leading the design work on the Dean single passed away a couple of years ago. He was a regular poster on one of the Model Engineering forums.

Just bumping this as a possible location for 3031 Class discussion rather than the Lode Star location?

He made some truly magnificent models including a Dean single and an Armstrong both from detailed research of original drawings.
