Loco change next week - 20 110 is covering the diesel turn not the 25 now due to a small oil leak that needs fixing.

24th/25th will be good days with 5786, 5526 (inc auto trains), plus D2246, D7612, D6737 and 2-car DMu working the 50's and 60's gala.

Do you know if there is a WTT available in advance? Couldn't seem to find it on the website etc.

    It looks a cracking event!

The WTT should be on the SDR site, however just in case:

    Departures from Buckfastleigh: 10.00 (5526 + Auto), 10.45 (5786 + GW Set), 11.35 (D6737 + BR Set), 12.15 (5526 + GW Set), 12.48 (D2246 + Goods to Bishops Bridge only), 13.05 (5786 + BR Set), 13.57 (2-car DMU to Staverton only), 14.15 (D6737 + GW Set), 15.00 (5526 + BR Set), 15.33 (D7612 + Goods to Bishops Bridge only), 15.50 (5786 + GW Set), 16.30 (D6737 + BR Set), 17.20 (5526 + Auto).

    Departures from Totnes: 10.02 (2-car DMU), 10.47 (5526 + Auto), 11.37 (5786 + GW Set), 12.17 (D6737 + BR Set), 13.07 (5526 + GW Set), 14.17 (5786 + BR Set), 15.02 (D6737 + GW Set), 15.52 (5526 + BR Set), 16.32 (5786 + GW Set), 17.22 (D6737 + BR Set), 18.00 (5526 + Auto).

Also running: 11.17 Staverton to Buckfastleigh (D7612 + Goods), 13.38 Bishops Bridge to Buckfastleigh (D2246 + Goods)

    Hope that helps.

Look out for the Transport Gala and Real Ale Festival on September 13/14th. I am just putting the finishing touches to the timetables - it is going to be good. Main train working over the full line (hauled by 3803 and 5526), plus lots of local / branch trains working in between. 5526 and the auto train, together with the odd DMU trip, will operate on the Buckfastleigh to Staverton section, whilst 5786 and D6737 will share operations of a BR local train on the section between Staverton and Totnes. There will also be a branch goods train running, and a seperate engineers train. 1369 will be station pilot at Buckfastleigh providing plenty of between trains action, but will also make a couple of trips on goods / engineers trains. On the Saturday evening 3803 will haul the combined goods and engineers train over the full branch. Add to this lots of other road vehilcles and the Real Ale Festival at Staverton and it will be a very busy and enjoyable weekend. I'll post more once the final details have been worked up.

As usual the SDR is excelling itself. What a superb itinerary. It never fails to impress me, whether it be day to day running or galas. It is easy to see why they won the HRA rly of the year award. Hats off to you all at the SDR. It really is a perfect GWR branch. =D> =D> =D>

Did anyone go tothe 50's 60's weekend, I did and it was great fun.

I ttok some pics which are on my fotopic site for anyone whos interested, hope you enjoy.

Some of the best pics I think are on the Garden Railway which had a double header of Evening Star A Castle and what I presume is a 28xx?

I also noticed Dumbleton has been moved does this mean a restoration is being considered? Also hows theprogress on Glendower she seems to look better or more complete than the last time I saw her in daylight.

The other move not mentioned was 50 002 is now in the green shed opposite the museum. That move is so the Devon Diesel Society can carry out welded repairs to the bodywork and get on with repairing the power unit. Dumbleton Hall moved from outside that shed to undercover in the stock shed in space vacated by the Class 50. Class 33, 33 002, moved out of said green shed into the spur off the loop where work will continue on the traction motors and electrics following bodywork restoration in the green shed and a succesful engine start up a few weeks ago. Meanwhile Glendower comes out into the open where 4920 was sat. No plans to get the Hall going yet - but its going to be easier to keep it clean and presentable in the running shed. The paperwork to upgrade the branch for engines heavier than 18 ton axleweight is nearing completion which will make it possible to start thinking about its future. But there is still 3205 to complete and then 1420 and maybe 6412 if it heads down the M5/A38 from the WSR. Glendower is privately owned and perhaps the easiest of the three Austerities on the branch to bring back into traffic, but its a lot of work for a private individual.

Ah yes I forgot about Superb being in the PLOG shed I only spotted it briefly but obviously couldnt get a pic of it, the other thing I did notice though was 20110 being shunted right down to the end of that end siding. Was there a specific reason for this or just to make space as I did notice it missing on my last visit.

Another thing was has Sapper had a repaint as she looks a lot cleaner now especially if u compare photos from last year with this

    Anyway thanks for the info

Also incase you'd like to know I've just filled in a mebership form at the 50's 60's weekend and have my card etc already hows that for service eh!! Top class if you see the people involved tell thanks.

Hopefully I'll pass my test in sept when I take it and can start to consider volunteering on the line.

You'll be made more than welcome.

Ref 20 110. The last train of the day is diesel hauled each week (SX). Each evening the train set stables in the platform ready for the next day, however on the Friday the loco and stock shunt ecs down the headshunt as the Saturday is only a one train running day. The Sunday sees the stock used from 10.00 and the loco from the previous week is usually left down the end of the headshunt until later that afternoon when the diesel for the next week is used to shunt it back into the "diesel spur".

If you want a photo of D402 (50 002) it is likely to be shunted out of the PLOG shed on Sunday to allow the crane to lift back on four cylinder heads, and maybe remove one or two more roof panels.

Regarding Glendower, whilst it is a private owner / single man project, the D.D.S (Devon Diesel Society) have offered to assist with some cosmetic work on the loco in the coming months as a way of thanking the owner for allowing the 50 to take up space in the shed, so maybe a nice green Austerity will appear in due course.

Thinking of visiting SDR for 33 002 on Sat 4th October, I have checked the DDS website which indicates it could be either 20 118 or 33 002, can anyone post on here when it is known for sure which will operate please?

20 118 will be out and about, the 33 is still under restoration, and although near, is not now expected to operate until the 2009 season.
