Not quite correct. The NSRC and 44422 Loco Co Ltd are separate groups, though the NSRC is the biggest single shareholder in the 4F.

Looking at the webcams this morning, it's surprising what a difference 20 miles can make!

Being in the hills is different from the coastal strip, where the snow has come and gone. 2010 was rather different...

Yes, it is isn't it. The difference between MD & BL is quite marked.

This is a formal statement on behalf of the West Somerset Railway PLC Board:

With regret it has been necessary to postpone the stakeholders and shareholders meeting, previously planned for tomorrow (Saturday 2nd) at Oake Manor, near Taunton. This is because of the heavy snowfall and the fact that the venue is only accessible via minor roads. We will directly contact those planning to attend as quickly as we can, but we are making this information available through all possible channels. We appreciate that to cancel at this notice causes significant inconvenience and change of plans but we feel we were left with little alternative.

We will be reorganizing the meeting as soon as we can, and again will announce this in as many ways we can. In the meantime the Directors would like to thank shareholders, staff, volunteers and others for all the support they are currently giving: we look forward to explaining to you the many steps we are taking to put the railway on a firm footing for the future.

Pre-paid hotel booking down the drain!

I shall have a weekend in Minehead anyway; having monitored the BBC Weather website, I'm interested to see what the roads are like tomorrow morning.

Yes it is unfortunate if you have made hotel bookings. I don't think it is possible to wait and see what the roads are like tomorrow, the decision would have to be made today. The forecast remains very cold and any snow and ice on minor roads is likely to remain.

    Sensible decision.

Highways England are warning of ice risk on minor routes for tomorrow.

Yes to be fair as above some may have made plans to attend but with the weather being as it is they would criticised if they did go ahead and if people who planned to go lived in the rural areas along the line the minor roads would be treacherous to go down

With hindsight I wonder if a more 'centrally located' venue might have been a better choice such as in Taunton

Pretty pictures, but anyone who has snow is more than welcome to keep it. Maybe the meeting should have been in balmy South Devon. :D

There are all manner of sticks with which one could beat a heritage railway, but having an event scuppered at short notice by snow probably isn’t one of them. Had the venue been central Taunton, someone would probably have complained about the lack of parking available!

Bristol and Exeter Signs for West Somerset Railway Stations.

Folks may remember that we were unsuccessful last year in buying back at auction an original Bristol and Exeter Railway Station name board from Dunster Station. The WSR supporters who had pledged funds towards that generously allowed their pledges to be used for a professional pattern maker to produce patters for these distinctive boards at Dunster, Watchet and Stogumber Stations.

We have now identified a foundry with the skills to cast these distinctive items and need your help to raise the £800 per sign cost of the items. Gift aid will add 25% from the government to anything you give if you are a UK tax payer.

    Please give generously.
