As this has been written about in other more general threads and has now achieved Frame building status, DSCF8035.JPG I think it now deserves it's own thread.

The costs of this project are considerably less than some other new builds because they are:-
a Not going for Main Line certification and use.
    b Building a small locomotive.
c Using some later industrial locomotive components - cylinder block, connecting rods etc.
d Designing and making a simple non superheated boiler.
e Going to use a suitable tender that they own, for re-building.
They intend to use it mainly on the GCR, so no severe demands and a train of Victorian coaches are being created to give a complete experience.

I've had a quick read of their website and this sounds like an interesting project.

(silly side comment; according to the sign in the background, they shouldn't park those frames there without a Blue Badge. :))

The first of the cast hornguides has been delivered. The remaining three will be ordered when the first has been test machined.

A few photos of mine taken at the AGMs between 2016 and 2018.

The cylinder block (photo 2016) which as has been noted is from an industrial loco (I heard somewhere it's an unused spare, 1950s vintage new-old stock). It's two castings which are bolted together, and the last I heard it was going to have to be separated because the valves need to be cleaned up.

Various motion and valvegear components (photo 2016), this was when the material for the slidebars had only recently been delivered. By the 2017 AGM if I remember rightly we'd got seven of them machined and the eighth we were waiting for.

Slidebar slippers (?), blocks (?), (photo 2017) when four of them had been machined and cleaned on one face each.

Pattern for the valve spindle casing (photo 2017).

Frames in August 2018 before they were erected. Members of the group were invited to view the frames prior to erection so a few of us visited one Friday about a month or so before this year's AGM.

A bit of Isopon, a coat of Hammerite and you're halfway there. The firemen might like the coal doors moving though...

Well the tender frame and wheels look reasonable, a new tank will be about £18,000?

Our new tank has been quoted at about 26k. So £18,000 is in the right ball park.

Hello Steve, No the tender was previously at Butterly. Hello Flying Pig and Gav106, the new tender tank for 567 is going to be built at Ruddington works. We have fabrication facilities for all of the necessary plate assembly work including welding and riveting, and electric overhead travelling crane with the capacity to lift even the heaviest of the tank components, so the cost will be considerably less than that quoted by fabrication specialists. Tender chassis needs overhaul that will include shot blast and paint, new leading dragbox, tyres turned, brake gear overhauled and new taper shank buffers. However we are prioritising work on the construction of the loco chassis and manufacture of motion at present. All news on progress is shared first with contributors before being published to a wider interest group, so if you want to be 'in the know' as soon as it happens, please sign up as a supporter. Thanks for your interest.

Thanks GCR567 .....I am signed up as a supporter and it is good to see how the cost of this "New Build" is being kept relatively low by judicious use of resources. I'm obviously looking forward to seeing this steam over the "Gap" as well!

The machining for the bogie side plates has now started at Ruddington, there is a short video on the 567 website.

I've just tried to send a message through the Contact page of the website. When I click on Send it tells me "an error has occurred".

The quarterly newsletter for supporters landed in my inbox last night. I'm going to respect the Group's policy of giving its supporters news a month or so before putting it on general release but I would note that there are a number of components that have been released for sponsorship (rear dragbox fabrication, c0nnecting rod big end straps, bogie hornblocks, hornstays, frame stretchers and nuts and bolts).

I never understand that policy. Members surely want to see the locomotive finished. They give money to do that, not to get to know the news first. If you have some good news to spread , then tell everyone as quickly as possible as you might be able to get more members/donors to join.
