The interesting question is why do the reversal at Gascoigne Wood at all (assuming that this does in fact happen in the end). If the one that would be at the back after the reversal stayed on the train all the way home there would seem no point in changing, so that does suggest that it comes off somewhere. Coming off immediately and running back the short distance to York (where it joined in the morning) would seem to make the most sense.

I see that a notice of compulsory strike off was issued for the Railway Touring Company on 29th Jan on Companies House meaning it would be dissolved in 2 months however this was cancelled on 2nd Feb. There are no directors listed for the company at the moment.

Just been looking again at the Blackpool trip in April and done the maths. Steam from Blackpool to Blackburn, Hellifield and Carnforth is about 80 miles. That must rank as one of the shortest steam trips ever. Even the Cumbrian Coast when steam comes on at Carlisle is well over 100.

Indeed, but needed track, had discount, which made things more tolerable as someone who's boarding at Preston.

Blackpool South would be a more advantageous destination - but that's just speaking personally.

Just like the "good old days" when a Cumbrian Mountain Express might just be steam from Hellifield to Carlisle (76 miles).

These seem very selective offers. I didn't get it (yet again) and missed this post; but a friend got a 'reminder' email (I didn't) extending the offer until 9 a.m. Monday. Just booked a couple of Duchys and it's still working.

Steam Beano mentioned that RTC are intending to run a memorial train for Nigel D on Sunday 17th March, for staff. Keep an eye on RTT for a 1zxx from Kings Lynn on that date. I'd guess that Melton Mowbray will be on the itinerary. They also say there will probably be a public memorial train later in the year.

Just had an email from RTC to say that the Wensleydale will be steam hauled throughout, expected to be 2 Jubilees, part double headed and part top & tail.

Plenty of examples of shorter trips that spring to mind:
Hellifield to Lancaster/Carnforth one way at least an odd time with the former Hull based Railtourer.

Jacobite out and back not much further.

Shakespeare Express Birmingham to Stratford and return.

Polar Express - a few miles one way back from Tyseley to Birmingham. More theatre trains but all class as low miles charter services.

Have had steam Carlisle to Blackpool several years ago one way via the S&C. Diesel hauled from Kilmarnock then throughout on the return due to it being a single shift day for the steam crew (which was long enough with all the POB and loco positioning moves). Blackpool can fit longer charters due now since the rebuild but it's harder to deal with now as no access off longest platforms into the CS to run round or service stock so unless you are staying in the station with a different loco back (if capacity allows) then the whole train must run to Preston and back on the break. See recent UK Railtours example for illuminations.

I’m booked on the Wensleydale trip in April but as I’m not very good with track outside my area, could anyone tell me what is significant about this tour?

Anyone booked on The High Peak Explorer? It's cancelled due to insufficient bookings. I received a letter offering me 4 other tours: the Wensleydale, Scarborough Flyer, Welsh Mountaineer, or the Manchester/Carlisle C.M.E.:(

Personally I was looking forward to doing this with a double header but the mileage was a bit short anyhow about 30 odd miles, it just would have been interesting to see what double header combo the locos would have been compared to last years with Leander and 45407 in heavy snow.

From the last pickup round Manchester? And that is in either direction. Full tour probably a couple of hundred if taking an indirect route and boarding at start point.
