Yes I remember that article/letter too!

As above I know 92240/73082 & 34059 all got complete tender frames in one shape or another, additionally as pictured above any chassis was missing its centre wheels so another frame donated wheelsets to these underframes. I recall the Bluebell selling a set of Bulleid tender Boxpox wheels to the Southern Locomotives Ltd team that had the axle chopped in half, also I think 73156 has some bits from a recovered frames from Briton Ferry.

Not sure about 73096'd tender being ex steelworks as I am certain it was a LMS Jubilee 45593 Kolhpour tender at withdrawal/preservation who then purchased Alberta's tender from a scrapyard and sold it years later for use with 73096.

Anyways none of this is about 35011, so apologies and back on topic.

The LMS tender chassis with 73096 did not come from Briton Ferry. It was last attached to 45562 Alberta (it was a Stanier 3500 gallon no. 4625) and was retained by Tyseley who had various spares off 45562. The chassis from this tender went to John Bunch for use with 73096 and the tank to Roger Hibbert who put it on an MR chassis for use behind 48305.

73096's tender chassis was originally with 45593 Kolhapur. The tender off Alberta was a 4000 gall one and was obtained by Tyseley to use with 45593 instead of its own 3500 gall tender.

Thanks for correcting that Std Tank. Must be more careful about posting when half awake in the morning. The remainder of my post is correct though.

A minor point here but 43924's departure was followed by 31618 as the second loco to escape in Jan '69. 5322's exit in March '69 was the third to leave.

At this time Woodham's yard was in two sections. 43924 was in the better known lower yard whilst 5322 was in the upper yard but without checking my notes from 4/68 I can't say where 31618 was.
    Ray.
p.s. On the subject of tenders can anyone confirm that 76080 and 92085 didn't have tenders when cut up?

Pretty certain that 31618 was in the upper yard.
92085 didn't have a tender when cut, not sure regarding 76080 (3817 did and it was cut along with the loco)

92085's tender was the last remaining BR1F type and left in September 1979 with 92212, Woodhams scrapped 92085 in June/July 1980. 76080 was a late arrival at Woodhams in 1968 I believe she lost her tender to Briton Ferry in 1969.

Fundraising is a challenge for anyone. I would say we are doing a decent job at this stage as we achieving the same level of fundraising as several other more successful Bulleid groups. we have raised a good amount of funds and purchased quite a few parts. The problem comes from the fact we are hopeful of completing a move in the next couple of days which has seen our membership magazine been delayed from January to March. Normally this time of year we’ve publicly talked about some of the progress we’ve made over the Christmas period.

    GSN sets course for Swindon
The General Steam Navigation Locomotive Restoration Society are pleased to announce that they have agreed terms to move locomotive 35011 to the Swindon and Cricklade Railway in Wiltshire.
The Society restoring Merchant Navy class locomotive 35011 General Steam Navigation are working to retro convert the locomotive to its 1950s specification before the class were rebuilt into the more conventional form by British Railways. This includes restoring the iconic air smoothed casing along with Bulleid’s oil bath encased valve gear incorporating chain drive. Once complete, General Steam Navigation will be the first engine to be restored to as-built condition within the ranks of preserved Merchant Navy class locomotives.
By relocating the group and the locomotive to a publicly accessible site near Swindon, restoration will be able to step up a gear, with a target to complete the rolling chassis within the next five years. The Swindon and Cricklade’s Blunsdon station will become the new home for 35011.
The General Steam Navigation Locomotive Restoration Society was formed towards the end of 2015 with the aim of restoring 35011. The Society has made great advances since then, but volunteers were keen to find a permanent restoration base for the locomotive.
“We are delighted that we can finally announce that the locomotive will be moving to The Swindon and Cricklade Railway in the near future” said Simon Shutt, Chairman of the General Steam Navigation Locomotive Restoration Society. “This move will enable us to take the project to the next step and escalate our efforts to put the steam back into General Steam Navigation.”
Working in association with other locomotive groups based at The Swindon and Cricklade Railway, the plan is to remove the locomotive boiler for the first time since it was withdrawn by British Railways, to allow thorough restoration of the locomotive frames and wheel sets.
“We are pleased to welcome this group to The Swindon and Cricklade Railway” said Mick Lay, chairman of the railway. “By relocating General Steam Navigation to the Swindon and Cricklade Railway both parties will benefit.” said Mick. “General Steam Navigation will be a valuable and useful locomotive when we extend to Cricklade and also help raise the profile of our railway while 35011 is restored. In giving General Steam Navigation a permanent home, we hope it will provide mutual support to our volunteers and the team working on her.”
The cost of the move has been priced up just under £9,000 which is where we need your help. We are fundraising to help cover as much as the cost as possible with the target being set at £4,000, the more money the Society can raise the more money that can be spent on components and help restore this mighty beast. If you can donate please consider supporting the Society by visiting our Just Giving page below thank you.

Lets hope it gives the project the boost it needs , personally I would have thought somewhere with a larger public image might have been better, but at least they can plan now to move forward with the real work of overhauling 35011.
Sellinge was never a secure home, with the pressure for housing in the South east,

I think the main thing is that it is close to the group of volunteers who are willing to work on the engine. And the S&Cr is considerably better than the previous location. Well done to all those who have made this possible so far. Onwards and upwards!
