Use them to replace those on 9009, and then bring the defective one back up to spec, as they finalise the overhaul of 15.

Allows them on the mainline making £££ as well.

I've only just found this and it's brought a huge grin to my face. I'm basically a steam guy but I used to live in Welwyn Garden city and that sound - which at night could be heard over the whole town - sends tingles down my spine.

For me the 'hairs on the back of the neck' sound is when they first rev up to start a train...

Oh yes when 55022 was on hire to Virgin 20 years ago to hear them start up at Ramsgate and Plymouth of all places was rather special!

Mine is when they have been tootling alone for a time, then wham, taps opened up to the max, and blue smoke everywhere.

Used to happen at Ouston Junction all the time after the restriction over facing points for the slow lines, heading north.

Are these runs truly light engine or is there a support coach attached?

I think only Ixion was the only 'preserved' diesel to have a support coach. I don't think the DPS or the Fifty Alliance have ever had a support coach.

I'd want a bit of insurance, Those Napiers haven't run for quite some time, back in the day they were run basically day and night , they thrived on hard work, and I can't see that leaving them stood asleep for long periods of time does them any good at all.

As they are way beyond their service interval for refresh, that may be a moot point, they are living on borrowed time...

Much as it pains me to say it, the complexity of a Deltic engine leads me to think the time will not be far away when all the locos enter a state of taxidermy.

Not seen any news about the outcome of the test run, nor any move to Edinburgh for Sunday unless they're waiting till after Tornado's test run.

Wonder if there's a plan B if Tornado isn't available. Deltic both ways perhaps? Something @Victor would dream about. ;):)
