The frames and wheels look very odd. My grandfather built a 7 1/4 inch loco so I know what it looked like when it was the frames and wheels, they were much more substantial.

Firebox/boiler looks very odd as well.

There are no crank bosses on the wheels and a rather strange long cylinder between the frames.

It’s certainly a very strange looking beast.

There appears to be a single inclined cylinder between the frames which is presumably driving a single axle. No sign of any connecting rods or other motion. A firebox with no water space (so just relying on the boiler barrel to heat water).

It occurs to me that it looks like a scaled up Mamod toy locomotive. . . .

Is that cylinder really intended to drive it? Does not look to my amateur observer's eye to be man enough! Very odd proportions bore versus stroke. I wondered if it was intended as valve gear?

I also wondered if the "loco" was intended as a dummy to be propelled by a motorised tender?

I also wondered that, but it seems a lot of extra effort to add 'stuff' between the frames and boiler tubes that won't be seen for just a dummy loco. It looks to me as if that boiler was intended to be used (but apparently designed by someone who had no real idea what they were doing).

At least it's a more realistic price this time. :D
