Think that advert may be out of date as E24808 moved to the Mid-Hants in June last year (according to VCT).

There is a very stripped green Mk1 outside the Rothley shed on the GCR - not sure what the plans are for it?

Probably the shell of 4914 which was written off? Assuming it is hanging on for dear life and not weighed in yet.

It is but with the sidings at Groombridge having to be removed (HR 7/9/18 as a public source) there'll be no space to keep things.
If anyone knows anywhere willing to take a wagon or two I'll put my hand in my pocket.

Anyone know if any of the stock operators such as WCRC or riviera trains have let anything else go lately?

There was a recent post on facebook about a week back showing that WCRC had let a MK2 go, riviera I know used to be partial to selling a few vehicles but don't know whether they are anymore. Over at bury the east lancs railway have got at least 5 or 6 ex riviera MK1s.

Also about a month ago a MK3 driving van trailer (DVT) 82125 was turned loose I think by porterbrook who owned it. Its escaped into preservation & now enjoying retirement on the mid norfolk railway. apparently its to be used on service trains, although how i'm not quite sure as there's only the guards area that could accommodate passengers.

Would that not be a paperwork nightmare turning a non-passenger vehicle into one carrying passengers?

The SVR's LNER 24506 was converted from a Pigeon Van to a brake third without any paperwork problems that I am aware of.

As long as the vehicle is passenger (parcels vans etc) rated their is no problem at all.

For heritage railways safety verification is only required if all three of the following conditions apply

Novel test: The new or altered equipment is novel
Difference Test: the risk arising from the design is new to the dutyholder
Risk Test: there will be a new risk or a significant increase in risk

I can't see such a modified vehicle meeting these three requirements and needing safety verification.

Just because the DVT is a full brake doesn't necessarily mean it needs converting to take passengers. It has already entered service and has been used for the same purpose as it was used for on the mainline: a brake coach, for the guard plus luggage space, in a rake of Mark 3's. I imagine the large space inside would also be very useful for the successful Polar Express operation that the MNR have been operating the past few years.

As the growing Mark 3 set at the Mid Norfolk Railway is made up of the "loco hauled" rather than "HST" type, they will need the DVT as otherwise there will be no guards accommodation, unless a Mark 2 brake were to be used.

Yes very true, the DVTs do have quite a large brake area. Plus if more get preserved they could be used by some railways as a makeshift PCV if they've got air braked stock it could be coupled to. Llangolen have a similar arrangement with a MK1 brake that's got a makeshift cab in 1 gangway.

Back to topic, have WCRC sold anything else, their latest sale to the mid norfolk was I think a MK2 brake, the riviera MK1s the east lancs have got are in quite nice nick. Also the GCR have a MK1 with a veranda on 1 end that I believe is ex charter stock.

GWSR got 3 ex Riviera coaches in 2013 IIRC, 2 TSOs and an FO. All 3 needed substantial amounts of work and the third is only just about to enter service (although that's far from everything we've been working on in the intervening 5 years!)

I think some of their ex stock has been in a bit of a state although that seems to be the case sometimes with ex charter stock, it gets a bit scruffy when their hauling people about on a regular basis.
