Purely out of curiosity (or is it ignorance?), is there a simple explanation for why the farther part of the canopy (covering platform only) is significantly higher than the canopy jutting out from the building. It is probably an obvious answer but I am not sure, hence this genuine question.

Just a consequence of bits of the station being built a different times. I think.

Yeah, the station looked so much neater without track

Very first thing that crossed my mind! I'm not too sure if 'bare' would be a little stark though Excellent shots.

I wish the WSR well and, yes, it is from my distant armchair. I also observe how vacuums create rumours, and that such rumours can cause damage. That is why I wish for something to be published in a way that will build confidence to those who couldn’t be there.

O.K. - you're getting Chris Grayling to reorganise the railway.

Surely though there must have been a message Management wished to get across on Saturday, a pre prepared statement could then be released after the meeting to the public.

The photos on Steve Edge's web site, showing the work and progress done with the tidy train and PW gang, puts the line into being quite 'ship shape and Bristol fashion'. I presume this was part normal winter maintenance and part work suggested by the ORR visit. Either way, the areas shown in the photos make it all look in very fine shape.

The tidy trains form two purposes as one is to make the railway look tidy and, also pick up old chairs which can be sold as scrap and, the timber/logs can also be sold for fire wood and in the past the wood was just left to rot but by been collected up it can be turned into money. The old wooden railway sleepers are also cleared but these have to be paid to be taken away due to the laws because what they have been treated with so cant be sold as in the past but the person who takes them uses them in an incinerator to generate electricity and he then pays the railway the money he has made from the electricity which covers the cost of having to have them taken away.

The Chairman of the WSR plc Jonathan Jones-Pratt, has asked me to post here on his behalf to say that he is very conscious of the need to keep Railway supporters who were not able to attend yesterday’s meeting informed of the present state of affairs and the steps being taken to put the Railway on a firm footing for the future.

He asks folk to ‘cut those involved a little slack’ as they do have personal lives beyond the Railway.

He expects to issue an official note / statement shortly.

Meanwhile, he thanks all WSR supporters for their continuing loyalty to and support for the Railway in all its many parts.

Thank you for your post Robin.
Possibly a similar treatment to that given to electricity overhead line poles many years ago. It contained arsenic.
The GWSR do a very nice line in boot scrapers reusing scrap chairs, I have a very nice ex GWR chair in green with the cast in lettering picked out in gold.

You know I don't remember hearing about that many deaths from the re-use of old telegraph poles or sleepers for that matter. I would have thought very few people went around licking them on account of the splinters.

I must be getting old, because I am starting to wonder for whose benefit some of these rules are constructed.

I have heard of sheep being killed after ash from burning treated wood was spread on their pasture

There are also issues about the build up of contamination from burning or leaving treated timber to rot
