But the Ffestiniog is controlled by a charity which owns (all but a few shares) the Company and is supported by a society. The society have the right to nominate one charity trustee and the society chairman sits on the committee which nominates the remaining trustees. The supporting body therefore have a guarantee of influence at the top table even though they do not control it. It might not be a perfect structure but .....

  3. Here is that "dead" Hymek being shoved by "Vulcan" at Tribble Bridge under a full moon. Sorry about the quality - my Zenith camera was good but not under those conditions ;)

In addition to the modern telephones and card reader mentioned in other posts there are many things either added, which were not original, or maybe moved. The 'new' items are the large clock (replica?), strip light over the ticket fitment, calendar Alexa :D or is it his food flask?. A notice board replaces wall hooks or nails.

Donald was never TRPS Treasurer (he and his wife Alison were Joint Membership Secretaries). Pat Garland was succeeded as Treasurer of the TRPS and Accountant of the TR Co by Colin Roobottom.

The present day photo, post 17360, shows much more clutter than the simpler 1950's one. Not being acquainted with most booking office interiors I wonder that the quest for nostalgia/heritage items etc. do mean more items being fitted in places that were not originally there, or even needed, in the days in the working railway (not heritage) booking offices and other buildings?
Past and present photos do show how interpretations - or simply present day requirements - vary over time.
I knew a workshop, which was part of a large retail store, which had the obligatory large poster (Factories Act 1961) on which it mentioned the requirement for a timepiece or similar enabling the staff being able to know what the time was.
The annotation on the poster was to the effect that the church clock, 500 or so yards away on a hill, was their time reference.
I guess present day legislation would prohibit such simplicity.

Has anybody else noticed that 61306 appears to be at the WSR from 16th April until 4th May?

  20. I
Thanks @gricerdon for the reminder. An interesting and welcome visitor! It arrives with the Steam Dreams railtour on 16 April (the return is diesel hauled) and leaves on 4 May when, at Taunton, takes over a London-Kingswear railtour. All this on the Steam Dreams website

I'm not aware of any planned use on service train on the WSR but fingers crossed :)
