Oh nice, Did you do that signwriting from scratch or repaired originals. Did you do it with gold leaf ?

From scratch, designs derived from some shadows on similar stock. I used "Dutch" (imitation) gold leaf, just need to make sure you give it a couple of good coats of varnish to stop it tarnishing as it's not real gold.

Would love to see a H and B train running together. An ideal base could be the Yorkshire wolds railway once they've got a bit more track. But that's a wibn.
In the meantime I applaud the efforts of the group and look forward to progress.

After nearly 50 years at the NYMR I would hope that they'll repay that hospitality by remaining there when the vehicles are usable!

Agree with that. Just not sure if they would be of much use on the NYMR. As it's needs are I'd imagine very different to what I'm used to. Large sets of through corridored mk1s, although the h and B collection is far more interesting in my eyes.

I don't particularly have a problem with some of the carriages being diffused out to up and coming railways, so long as they are in the right geographic area, there was a time when only a few large heritage railways (the nymr, bluebell, svr) had the space, the volunteers and the financial means to save and keep pre grouping carriages, but since that time a lot more railways have matured and gained the ability to be trusted to curate some of the more valuable carriages, stainmores acquisition of a number of LNERCA stock from nymr is a good example, gah if only the Alnwick branch had not been severed, would be a great place for north eastern stuff!

Not knowing the NYMR well, is there a possibility/appetite to run short shuttle trains during galas, or just as an "extra" on normal days? As and when they're up and running pairing them with one of the colliery locos painted in H&B livery is surely a must.

I think it's a group with a very worthy aim. Who from what I've seen on here and in person are doing a great job.
It was a thigh they like coaches heading out to Stainmore etc. They would suit the future operating on the Yorkshire wolds (that little bit nearer home too). And would hopefully get a chance to go undercover etc.

That's what the group really need, somewhere suitable undercover and closer to where volunteers actually live so working parties can be more than once a month.

Well the Aln Valley branch may have been severed, but the Aln Valley Railway is making good progress in reinstating it. We can't run all the way into Alnwick because someone thoughtlessly put the A1 in the way, but we're operating from a site to the east of the A1. Currently running about 3/4 mile, but we have track laid which will double that later in the year. Next stop Alnmouth.

I'm currently leading work on restoring an NER directors saloon of 1896, possibly the only one on its original underframe. Hopefully we'll be finished this summer. We'd love to have more if anyone's offering!

Yes it is. We've had it since 2012 and started work on restoring it at the end of 2017. It's privately owned and the owners are funding the cost of materials and we're doing the work in return for a 10 year loan.

The Society is currently looking into obtaining Charitable Status something that should have been done years ago but nobody seemed really know how to go about it. I am sorry & somewhat appalled by the fact you offered to help the society with an application in the past, and were shown nothing but lack of interest. Could you tell me when you made this offer to us & who turned you down thru lack of interest, (I have my own idea to whom it may have been but i could be wrong) If you were to make this offer again i am sure you would get a different reaction.

Don't forget that the HRA have advisers on this and many other aspects of operating and managing heritage railways. If you are members then I recommend making full use of them. :) (and if you're not, then why not? )

Sorry to have taken so long to reply to this, I've been away and then very busy with work, but I'd be very pleased to help with any applications that can be made. I've done several successful ones for the LNERCA , so I think I have a lot to offer. I hope to have a ride in these coaches one day and they would make a nice gala shuttle set, running with Thempson CL 88339. It's just a real shame that the NYMR don't have an NER non-corridor vehicle of any description to run with them.

There is a working party up at Goathland on Saturday 27th if you would like to come along and meet some of us, we would very much like to meet you & we will be able to show you round the stock giving you an update on what we have achieved so far. It would also give us chance to discuss your offer of help. Hope you will be able to call in, the party will be there from 10:00 to around 16:00 regards John

Sorry, I live near Salisbury so it is a bit of a trek to Goathland. PM me for my phone number, though and we can have a chat about possibilities.

I don't have the designs for the Lambton colliery pair, but strongly suspect they are identical to the H&B 0-6-2T (a cancelled order/spares?) so perhaps an attempt at the dark green/black livery would be a major attraction with those coaches?
