Looking on the website at where they say it's gonna be built I know for a fact that there's nowhere suitable to build it in the area they say they are as I live in Southport. There would have been stuff in the local papers about it too which iv seen none.

Well you could take a Patriot boiler, put it on a new chassis and give the Patriot chassis a Royal Scot style boiler, and then you'd have a Claughton and a Royal Scot - but no Baby Scot.

Not Baby Scots' frames were more lightly built than the Scots' to handle the greater power output.

Well, I'd love to see a Royal Scot anyway. You could number it 6171, paint it LMS red and call it The Royal Regiment of Scotland and have a big nameplate.

Yes it's going back a long way but the Royal Scot is arguably the greatest of Scottish design as design work went South after the grouping. Would certainly be abject vandalism to unrebuild one of the rebuilt pair, so perhaps another new build??!?!

I know it's not going to happen but I think a Claughton in more or less it's original form with minor updates such as modified piston rings would be fine as a heritage railway locomotive.

Yes the originals had some faults, OK a lot of faults; but a great deal was expected of them (and to some extent got from them on occasions) on heavy WCML expresses so I'm sure most of the preserved lines (with two exceptions perhaps?) would have little problem with one.

God I would love an original Scot! What a beast!
It would look lovely with my hypothetical Fowler locomotive collection.

Agree. One would be great on a heritage line, probably not up to main line use though.

I'm looking forward to seeing it - due to be finished next year, according to the website. Which railway is going to stage a gala to host the first meeting of Patriot and Claughton?

If you click on the Home button on the website, you will see that the loco is complete.....

albeit the track it runs on is a little narrower than that required for the new build Patriot.

To really confuse everyone I think the Claughton should be a replica of No 1914.

I suggested calling it Mario Balotelli. (occasional good performances but erratic, inconsistent and unreliable)

Erm, why would a four cylinder tender express loco be "great" on a heritage line?
Surely it's just about the least useful type of loco.
Yes, I know lots of Class 5 tender locos see use on heritage lines, because they exist, but I imagine anyone in operations would prefer a powerful tank type.
The LNW is woefully under-represented in preservation, and I would love to see some new builds, but the Claughton is about the last type worth bringing back (and I say it regretfully, I love a Claughton).
If you want a new LNW loco, how about a Radial tank, a Watford tank, a PoW 4-6-2T tank (no 4-6-2T is preserved), a 4-4-2T, even a 0-8-2T.... All would be preferable (and cheaper!).

Oh dear. Shame their buiding a Patriot then.

OTH some people like the big express locos such as KE2 and FS visiting. If one was ever to be built it would be because some people really wanted one rather than to meet the motive power needs of a line like the BR3 tank.
