Over the last week a lot of effort has gone into finishing off the Green End Relay, no doubt there will be a report from Nigel in due course.
2 lengthy tamping sessions took place with a 08.00 - 20.00 shift on Thursday and another 08.00 - 19.00 yesterday.
There was also crane working in Grosmont lifting some signals for S+T.
That meant that 3 of the machines that York Area Group have provided to the railway were in action on thursday and 2 of them again yesterday.

It was pointed out to me yesterday, that Sun 24th March was a significant date in the history of the NYMR Pway dept

It is 50 years to the day that Volunteer PW activities started on the railway with Rail changing between Beck Hole and Green End, under the supervision of the then supervisor Joe Brown.
One man was there on both dates, Nick Carter.
Quite apt then that we should be working in the same area on the anniversary date.

You may have noted a body lying on the ballast shoulder in one of the photos above.
Short video of recent Esk Valley Tamping, including the trespassers at the end of the video!

The PW gang had a day out today in the Inspection saloon along with partners.
Beverages Hot and Cold provided along with a Buffet.
Many thanks to be expressed to Jim who organised the day and also waited on.

Of course the on board talk soon degenerated into past renewal sites and those for the future.

I am hugely impressed by this. The quality of the work is remarkable, and must surely be closer to industry standard than what most folk consider "preservation"?
