Times now on RTT for this. Looks like it's taking the Sutton Park line, like Tornado is this Saturday with the Bard of Avon. You go ages without steam on that line and then you get two in consecutive weeks!

I'm assuming most people will be getting off at Kidderminster for SVR rather than staying on to Worcester

How often has a B1 worked a train out of Euston?

Realtime Trains has some of the ECS movements.
    From WOS: http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/U55003/2019/03/30/advanced
    Turning: http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/U55004/2019/03/30/advanced
    Into WOS: http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/U55006/2019/03/30/advanced
and out of Euston at the end of the day: http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/U55007/2019/03/30/advanced

But not the ECS arrival at Euston in the morning, nor departure of the ECS from the Manchester train that arrives at platform 16 at 2300 before the Mayflower trip arrives at 2319.

And anyway no sign of diesel LE movements, so presumably it's attached all day for the movements at Worcester.

The issue I now have with Steam Dreams is one of their making but I recognise that I'm not the main customer.

Nowadays they are relying on a locomotive that is only a Class 5 for which the load limit should really be 10 (as on the Bluebell trip). If the load is any more than I think the loco would be stretched and need help. If the trip requires a diesel for operational reasons you have no flexibility so the diesel will help. I was considering this trip but was worried about how it would play out even though, of all places, Worcester is where you can shunt a train with just the steam loco.

So I'll sit this one out, see what happens and wait for another opportunity to revisit SD.

The Euston start all but guaranteed a diesel in the consist, even if it was booked for class 8 power up front !

The CME etc leaves the diesel at Euston. There is usually no path showing on RTT so you can't tell if Saturdays trip will leave the diesel or not

But that's because the Class 86 up front doesn't need help up Camden or thereafter!

Can you bank out of Euston then drop back like you can at Victoria ? That's the only outstanding issue I can see with Mayflower on this trip, oh and Old Hill, unless it's load 11+

Only to platform end, I think. The Victoria arrangement is a special dispensation for the Pullmans (because it's on the WTT, I think) and other charters can take advantage of it.

That's not the point I'm making...

RTT or similar is likely to show a path for the diesel if it is left behind.

With regards to the possible presence of a diesel, it's worth bearing in mind that for this trip there is additional shunting required at Worcester. Coming out of the tunnel from the direction of Droitwich she'll have to arrive at Plaform 2, from where there is no direct access to the yard. She'll have to go forwards off to the Wylds Lane signal, then backwards through Platform 1 in order to get into the yard. These movements are on RTT (see post #4 above).

Also, bearing in mind that, in order to try and fit in with modern traffic, steam excursions need to pick up speed as quickly as possible, isn't load 10 too much to hang on a class 5 unassisted? In particular, the B1 has shown itself to be less competent at picking up speed and climbing hills than a Black 5.

It was 10 on the Bath trip which was OK and SD made a point of stating it would be DL free. I suspect this one may not be but they have told me that there are no plans to take DL on the Kingswear trip in May.

If a railtour arrives at Worcester from the south it is possible for the loco to take the ECS into the yard then just loco and support coach turn on the triangle. But it seems that this one, arriving from the north, will need a diesel on the other end for some of the shunting movements. The diesel is also almost certain to help up Camden Bank. On the rest of the trip, who knows? I'm contemplating a late booking on this, but another downside besides the early start from Euston is that whoever is at the back (which we seldom know before we join the train) will be back in both directions.

I went out to photo 61306 twice in 2015 ,one at Sandy on the York trip ,the other at Long Buckby on a Chester train. I remember how it was being thrashed both times . I regular go to both spots, and locos are never being driven so hard there. I realise that I only saw a small snap shot both days though. I've noticed its booked 23 mins from Northampton to Rugby on Saturday .E M U s with a stop at Long Buckby are about the same . Class 4 liner /container freight trains are mostly also similar.. Looking forward to Saturday .Photo' at Long Buckby 02.11.2015 attached.

Departed Euston 0709, up Camden Bank at 0713. Sounding terrific with not much assistance from the back from where I was! Video to shortly follow.

I quote my brother who has just seen it at Long Buckby. “That was some mad thrash from the 33!” Bodes very well on a pretty much level section of track
