After what happened to 4472/60103, as a consequence of a previous owner having pimped it up with 'GTI modifications', as it were, I would say that owners/custodians of similar venerable machinery would think long and hard before following suit...

 

That'll do nicely, ok, it had only 5 on but for a bedding in run it looked and sounded fine.

Isn't this a regular 10A procedure these days? A gentle run to/from Hellifield, then a longer run 'round the circuit' with a light load (presumably to check bearings better than on the short initial run), and then if all is well, 'load her up and let her rip' with a full load test, again 'round the circuit'.

 

Your humour has been tried on one or two locos. I hope your Jag is this colour.

A livery discussion, It's a while since we had one of those, and 6201 has only just poked it's nose out of the shed.

 

I have to agree with you about Brunswick green. As for 6201 I would have preferred to have 46203 back and 6201 stuffed.

 

Meanwhile the Princess Elizabeth Society website still says "we are appealing to members and the general public to help fund repairs so that we can put 6201 Princess Elizabeth back into action as soon as possible" and solicits donations.

 

You surely don't expect them to stop fund raising, just because she's been out and about?

 

They may have a legitimate reason for continuing fund raising, but the only reason that they give "to help fund repairs so that we can put 6201 Princess Elizabeth back into action as soon as possible" is nonsense when the work has been completed (apart, possibly, from final tweaks) at Carnforth.

Operating, maintaining, etc etc a steam locomotive (or a Deltic) is a constant drain on funds. I refer you to Alycidon, bogies overhauled, running well on the main line, and then it all went t its up. Repairs don't come cheap and with that in mind I don't think it's right for folk to criticise the 6201 folk for pursuing ongoing appeal for funds, and they are under no obligation to give reasons.

 

Maybe, but is it all paid for yet?

Probably not and the involvement of West Coast will possibly see donations take a nose dive. I remember Pete Waterman saying when his name was linked with anything people just stopped giving on the basis that he was a millionaire so they needn’t bother.

 

I don't mind them asking. I mind them not telling the truth when asking If it's for running repairs, ask.
