Tickets should be emailed/posted by Tuesday at the latest. They will be waiting for confirmation of motive power.

Since it's an RTC trip then it depends if they want to hire something other than from the Carnforth stable.

As I understand it, 45699 is having a retube and 45690 failed her fitness to run for a Winter CME several weeks back and hasn't done a tour since. Whether either are ready in time for this weekend coming I think is in some doubt.

And that is what it says on the letter with the ticket. The letter also states that the trip will only be going as far as Leyburn with a stop from 15.10 to 15.45. So a long time on the train, not long off it and better take your food with you. How things change.

Interesting combination, pity the 8F couldn't go to York earlier on it's own then join and leave there....

I’m quite happy with the double heading from CNF and Gascoigne Wood ( sorry about the spelling)

Too ambitious in my view. OK - not many will be boarding at Carnforth and it's convenient to start from there because that's where the stock and locos are. But when I did it from York we left at 10.00am and were back at Northallerton 5 hours later to include an hour at Leyburn - enough for lunch. So by my reckoning, as a destination you do need to allow a good 6 hours to do this. Then you have to add on the time to get to and from York. Silly idea but I gather the train is well loaded. Wouldn't mind betting that most of the passengers are viewing it as a short day out from York and they probably could have filled it had they started at Leeds.

I’m on at Carnforth because it’s the closest from where I live and it was the double heading that did it for me or else Saphos would’ve been having my money this year.

Nothing wrong with joining at Carnforth, it's not that early, and it's where the train starts from. Why on earth would you join at York? You have got drive there, pay about 15 quid to park, only get less than half a day trip, and still pay £109 for the privilege! Add to that the fact that you would only have about 40 minutes on the main line, no thanks. PS, the train doesn't call at Leeds anyway.

Yes, I knew about Leeds and I understand how convenient Carnforth is if its local. I was just reflecting on the fact that someone has already said there is only half an hour at the destination. In practice what that means is that folk are on the train all day, the staff and stewards barely get a break and......minor point......they will be hard pushed to service the train at Leyburn other than to water the kitchen car and buffet.

    None of that is ideal.
