I thought 70000 had her bearings replaced a few years ago? Have they gone again?

You are right Sheff. 'Water ingress and wear as a result' is the phrase quoted from Chairman Trevor Tuckley. They need £53,520 but that is replacing 8 bearings rather than 6 for a 2 cylinder machine. The total quoted of £104k+ also includes new driving wheel tyres all round £25.5k, additional parts for Caprotti boxes of £13.8k and £12.5k for new rear piston covers. (details from their website www.theduke.uk.com)
So the problem with water ingress is costing them quite a sum. Obviously a matter to be resolved for 'Hengist' and all such machines. Should be useful source of information for 'Clan Project' for the future as well.
By the way, did we cancel the boiler referred to earlier? All info. about it seems to have disappeared today?;)

Well you are supposed to stop at 1200 on Monday of that date but I was in Sheffield and I had to wait until I got home. Hope you had fun!

Yes, we are listening to the cannon box issues. We think we've got a good solution. We'll share it on the web site once Timken have given the OK. The point about pressure washers will be worth noting as they can create a lot of pressure

Reread SR article. 70000’s bearing replacement was in the (recent) past.

Sh!t lives forever, washing is simply moving it someplace else/making somewhere else dirty.

Yea, like removing it with rags and putting it in a receptacle to dispose of somewhere else where it will not cause a problem! Washers only flush it down drains where it continues to cause a problem for the future.

    Thanks greatly for indulging us!
Looking carefully, it doesn't look like a Photoshop (unless someone's really good!) So what is it, actually?

Not actually sure. There was a couple of them sitting on the ground outside our container at CTL Seal. When we saw them, it looked like a good opportunity! I cropped the photo on the left so you couldn't see the second one and on the right to try to reduce the length. No photoshop involved. On Monday we were entertained by a large crane lifting them onto lorries for transporting then away.

My thought, looking at it, was that it looked a bit like one of Gerald Bull's creations!

That's a fair old thickness of plate to roll and weld, impressive stuff!
