Great job - thanks to all supporters and workers involved. I'm looking forward to it (hopefully) visiting the GCR sometime in the future.

It looks exactly the same as all the other GWR 4-6-0s though...

I assume she is going to be lined out or is that after the launch?

Much like Stanier 4-6-0's look the same and Wc.s/BoB.s/MN.s all look the same really?

Why can’t we just enjoy this without the barbs about similar looking locos?

Can we please once just be happy and enjoy the sight of a steam locomotive in steam?

    Be happy for the group?

Could we please just once - be cool! Just once! Please? o_O

I think you are being too sensitive. It's nothing more than a little bit of banter. Please don't turn it into something toxic.

A vital piece of the story of standardisation, Churchwards revitalisation of great western motive power and even the story of how nationally, locomotive engineering moved ahead has been recreated Its pedigree is almost all pure great western, it will move and sound as the originals and in decades to come people will see how victorian engineered small locos with anarchic features moved on to modern, stark, Blunt but practical larger locos. Well done Didcot!

You’re entitled to hold a view.

I’d love to know why the excuse for stuff like this is always “it’s banter?”

Seeing the same joke repeated by different people over a half dozen social media sites - I feel for Didcot. Must be wearying!

They’re trying to show off - rightly - their new loco, and steam enthusiasts think they’re being funny by saying the same old hagged things over and over again.

I dunno, call me over sensitive if you like but I think we can do better as an industry and be supportive without indulging in “banter”.

You know, you can PM me if you prefer. I’ve no intention of getting into a back and forth on this thread when it should be about Didcot and the Saint.

Well I for one welcome the Saint as much as I welcomed the A1, and as much as I'll welcome the Patriot and P2 etc... But a crafty joke never went amiss...
I forget the number of times I've been accused of owning "one of those crappy AECs" by a certain Bristol Lodekka-Loving RO on the Worth Valley! All good fun!

My, my, you are touchy, something hit a nerve...

"I think we can do better as an industry" Which part of the 'industry' are you speaking for?

As for banter, it's a forum, banter is what they do, if you don't like it or consider yourself above that sort of thing well......

Oh us Nat Pres stalwarts like a bit of good banter.
One thing I've always wondered about with GWR locos. are the footplate crews issued with safety harness to stop them falling out of those 'rabbit hutch' cabs?

Please give it a rest. “All GWR 4-6-0s look the same” has been banter for as long as I can remember so no need to take it seriously. Anyway it’s true. :)

Lovely! I hope the GW folks earn plenty of hire fee's if it does the rounds on heritage lines. It'll be popular for sure...especially with the GW devotee's.

A visit to Specsavers might be required. Perhaps an eye chart with a King at the top graduating down to a Manor.

A serious question. Why did the GW insist on leaving a gap where other railways put cab doors and why did they penny pinch by fitting only one water gauge glass? The latter particularly, have a gauge glass blow and you’re stuffed on a GW engine.
