How about adding a "ways you can help" tab to the excellent wsr.org website where the message of this post and any specific appeals (financial, volunteering or otherwise) can be made prominent?

I would be very disappointed if no locos are brought in for the summer as I am not a huge fan of the WSR's 'home' steam fleet. Even if a ban on heavy steam is in place it would be nice to sea a lighter steam engine brought in.

If the current 'home' locos are in action its highly likely I won't come back this summer as much as I think its a great line. Remember, I only went back for a second time last year because 'Braunton' was in action.

Which is why heritage railways wouldn't survive if they had to depend on enthusiasts alone.

I got slated on another well known forum for calling diesel enthusiasts fickle.
I suppose in the interests of fairness ,I should call some steam enthusiasts fickle as well.

Certainly reinforces the point that preserved lines need Joe Public more than ever.

Agree with many points made and I would like to say I was hugely impressed with the line, arguably the ebst I have visited! However more it would be nice to see a different steam loco brought in the summer and I definitely will return.

Sent from my laptop using my fingers.

Assuming you understand the costs involved... the line would need to be upgraded to at least 50mph so as to beat the bus. The signalling and staffing would need to be costed, and the potential revenue assessed. If it were viable, then GWR would be pressing hard for it. I fear you are depending on Socialist financing, or maybe Magic Mushrooms.

Typical TV rubbish.... BBC Coast featured an (umbrella in the rucksack) idiot approaching the Great Orme in Llandudno. The "walk" had been from the south. He was walking along the Llandudno promenade (sea on his right) i.e. from the NORTH.
About the same dumbed down TV as when a householder gets a visit from Keith Chegwin at 07:30 and the kids are all fully dressed, and the woman is in full makeup, and so surprised when he knocks at the door. (There is even a TV camera INSIDE the house of the surprised householder).

According to National Rail the cheapest Bath-Taunton return option is two advance singles at £21. An off peak return is £24.10. In other words this price is basically the same as the cheapest Bath-Taunton ticket plus a WSR day rover - and then if you were doing it yourself there would potentially be the bus fare too.

Maybe Corbyn & Co, will fund it in their nationalization plans - assuming they get elected of course. :D

For anyone planning to visit Minehead station today, the Buffer Stop shop is not open due to staff sickness but I’m told it will be open tomorrow.

The Turntable Cafe and Readers Halt book stand are open as usual.

Make more money the line currently does and wouldn't need to stick its hand out for hand outs.

  16. Ah, at last, someone who has done the research and has the facts.

Can we see your figures? Do you mean ticket revenue alone or do you mean the remainder of revenue minus costs?

The other thread is probably more appropriate for your reply.

The A358 is open again at Sampford Brett, but not quite ALL traces of the roadworks have been removed...

Sorry to hear that. However, the WSR in today's circumstances cannot afford to provide enthusiasts with entertainment, unless it brings in the necessary £ to cover the cost and some more besides.
