I saw that happen back in 1969, and it makes me feel very old.

I was also at Filton that day, with my mother and younger brother. A memorable occasion.

Back in around 1967/68 a Phantom jet fighter was flown over London to demonstrate the boom of the sound barrier just before the maiden flight of Concord, I was an apprentice electrician at the time working in Sussex gardens off the Edgware road and clearly heard the boom, no sight of the Phantom though which must have been traveling at a rate of knots.
