I've removed a number of posts and will place myself on the naughty step for a few moments of reflection on a couple of rather terse posts

@Davo no one wishes to stop you posting , just pause for a moment before you do . Thank you for your honesty about your writing , again if you need help I'm sure that many on here will help you frame your posts to make more sense

for all of us , members should be treated with respect, posts which do not conform with nat pres rules and expectations , please report . the mod team can resolve

More than likely a wreath in memory of the young man from Riley's who unfortunately passed on recently.

A large crowd here, including many children, apparently due to local paper publicity. No extra uniformed attendance. DSC_1088.JPG

Still impressive though that steam is attracting the attention of the youth of today!

You know little of what is going on so to avoid looking foolish you would be wise to shut up. Yes I could have said that in a PM but you choose to go public on what you think should and shouldn't be going on so expect this kind of reaction.

I would be the first to admit I spend more time on this forum than I should, but have found it informative and helpful. However, the bullying of some posters who quite clear have such issues as dyslexia by moderators really does make me wonder about whether it is a place I wish to continue connection with. This situation appears to be in part because some posters speculate on the 'sacred ground' of mainline steam. From the way that others posters are continued to be allowed to make certain types of post in the New General Chat section (where some moderators regularly target people of views that differ from their own), one can only conclude that compassion and understanding is oddly selective on this forum, as is moderation of 'axe grinding', and that outdated views of 'people should be man enough to take it (unless I agree with them)' underpin some moderating decisions.

Time for careful consideration, and I hope not just by me.

    Steven

    ^^ What Steven said.

I went and photographed 60103 this afternoon and whilst I was at a level crossing, I met a chap whose main interest was wildlife photography and he'd heard about 60103's run via a local interest website so he turned out with his camera. He asked me where he might find out more about steam movements... and I really struggled to bring myself to mention Nat Pres because I genuinely am beginning to think that even the open parts of it are becoming a poor advert for the hobby, vide the prolonged, tiresome and tedious squabbling on the WSR thread (and others, sadly). Christ alone knows what this chap will think if he reads the latter posts on this thread, which I mentioned to him.

I wasn't happy with the photo either: I wish I'd gone further back down the line and gone for a broadside shot across some fields of oilseed rape... :(

What is perhaps not appreciated is the quiet moderation that takes place, the pms sent to try and keep this a sensible and safe place . I am certainly not going to become all snowflake on the fact that sometimes we have to be a little more brutal . I don’t subscribe to the notion that moderators are bullying individuals . One nameless poster is regularly being reported on numerous posts and ignored all private advice given and yet public guidance seems to be perceived as bullying .

I think @Big Al deserves a little credit for shouldering a great proportion of the daily moderating, especially as he , like the rest do this voluntarily.

As always If any of you want to come and share the burden please volunteer. Sadly last time I checked there was a very very small queue

I mostly agree, but I don't regard a comment along the lines "I find so-and-so's posts very hard to follow: a few capital letters, full stops and commas would help" as bullying. There can be a fine line between constructive criticism and destructive. On another aspect, we all enjoy speculation, but I think it's fair to complain when someone in the know has said that X is happening and then someone else speculates that perhaps it's Y.

I feel I need to post on this. I wholeheartedly agree with Beancounter's comments - what seems to have been obvious to some of us on here has either been overlooked or treated with contempt by others. I am not going to name anyone, but some posts were a throw back to attitudes a few decades ago. Whilst we all like to recreate the past, some things (& attitudes) are best left there and I personally don't wish to be associated with such things. Times have moved on and these days we should all be aware of those who may be less able or find difficulty in certain situations. It can take a lot of courage for some people to contribute to social situations or to take part in something they enjoy, but where they know they may struggle. Fear of failing or making a mistake, can put people off all together. Therefore we should encourage enthusiasm in all its forms and perhaps turn a blind eye if something isn't quite perfect. I object also to the term 'snowflake' which seems to banded around whenever people object to political correctness - being politically correct isn't the same as being socially aware of each others differences.
And on that note, lecture over and I will return to lurking, but I hope some at least will perhaps also have a think before posting.
