Funnily enough, as it approached I was thinking that it just looked like it belonged there.

It was the first A4 I ever saw, 55 years ago all but a couple of weeks, on 9th May 1964

That's because it does! I'm also pleased that in the relatively short space of around six weeks two of the LNER's finest have been able to run on the ECML north of York. Both Tornado and UoSA looked the part although I have to say that 4 hr 40 min (albeit one way) with Tornado, unassisted, was preferable to six hours today. But you have to take what you are given.

I hope to reunite with 60009 on GBXII although it seems this will be another (+1) trip. However...2019 and I will have been from York to Edinburgh with an A1 and then hopefully from Edinburgh to Aberdeen with an A4. A remarkable prospect, even with the caveats.

I think the Southbound driver is Davey Blair. I have no idea about the name of the fireman but he had black hair, glasses and I think a Scottish accent.

The description matches (apart from accent) but without knowing who else was on the footplate at the time, I can't say there wasn't another person who matched the details there either.
