Amazing footage thanks for sharing.. that was some struggle over the last yards.. Did you know that guy was there in your shot on the first clip? That would have annoyed me that he slightly spoiled a great shot..

It would've been taken down a hell of a lot quicker than It's Pinkness went up...

Have you tried using Shrewsbury in RTT instead of Preston, there are two different reporting codes... 1Z84 to Shrewsbury and 1Z86 on to Preston....

From a quick glimpse from the lineside clip looked like Pete Roberts at the controls and Spike Hodges as T.I. looking out near the bridge. Can anyone confirm, but whoever it was great work, I thought there may actually have been two restarts but need to watch it again.

Chris Birmingham is (was) the fireman as far as Weston Super Mare this morning, he was the fireman for yesterdays leg of the tour too. A scouser on a ex Edge Hill (8A) Duchess, a good match me thinks!

Whilst comparing performances of different locos can be interesting, for any comparison to be meaningful, conditions have to be the same.

My footage of the Duchess yesterday and today on the South Devon Banks. Both climbs up Whiteball was very good, Rattery Bank was amazing and Hemerdon was very dramatic. Huge credit to the crew especially up Hemerdon.

Nice one David, although I must admit I was concerned your battery would run out of juice before she finally made it to the top.
Now if that had been a King or a Castle that video would have been considerably shorter......

Yes, they would have needed a diesel to shove them up. :)

I'm sure that as you say, the crew was just interested in doing the job and doing it as professionally as possible. And whilst it's not about any kind of competition is it not appropriate to look at 'like for like' comparisons? Two Class 8s with similar loads in similar circumstances? But you apparently are not interested in a study of comparative locomotive performance. So people like O. S. Nock and closer to home, D W Winkworth, were wasting their time.

Have read many books and articles by O. S. Nock and found them most interesting but I surmise you may have missed the bit where I said that for any comparison to be meaningful, conditions have to be the same. I'm awaiting info as to whether conditions were indeed the same for 6233 today as those for 35028's run.

Far worse conditions on Clan Line's Exeter-bound climb of Hemerdon. Plenty of videos around to confirm that. But Clan Line didn't have to restart the train and that was quite an achievement by the crew with the Duchess.

Just watched the coaching stock pass by Blue Anchor, hauled by Odney Manor and the 7F.

To those on board I say enjoy your brief visit to our railway. So much nonsense is written about it on this and other forums. We have a wonderful railway operated by many special people.

Have a safe and enjoyable journey and come back to visit us again sometime.
