Incidentally there is a (paid) job vacancy on the SVR at the moment, for an Infrastructure & Permanent Way Team Leader.

More info at https://www.svr.co.uk/Employment.aspx - if anyone is interested the closing date is three weeks Friday.

My footage of today's action on the Severn Valley Railway in pure sunshine, except for 75069 morning run at Foley Park Tunnel in the fog. Footage features 75069 at Northwood Lane, 2857 at Devil's Spittleful, 813 on a rare run on the diner train at Crossing Cottage on Eardington Bank and finally 7714 tackling Eardington Bank in the last ray of light. Enjoy.

GW loco fest this coming weekend 23rd/24th March. 2857, 4144, 5619, 6430, 7714, 7802 all in action over the weekend. Anywhere else this would be a strong Gala line up but this is just a normal weekend between Kidderminster & Bridgnorth.

Seems the damage to the points last weekend requires more attention.

The Severn Valley Railway is celebrating after winning a £853,800 grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund. We will use the grant, along with other funds raised, to restore Falling Sands Viaduct in Kidderminster, and to launch an exciting programme of community engagement and exhibitions that will explore the Railway’s early history.

Two apprenticeships available on the SVR via Dudley College.

    From the official announcement;

    25/04/19
I am delighted to announce that the SVR Heritage Skills Training Academy (HSTA) are recruiting two apprentices to join the Railway in August. They will then commence their training at Dudley College of Technology in September 2019.
All apprenticeship recruitment is through the National Apprenticeship Scheme. This is the link to our vacancy -
    https://www.findapprenticeship.service.gov.uk/apprenticeship/-415176
If you are reading this on a paper copy – the reference to the vacancy is VAC001527259.
The advert has been placed by Dudley College who are our training partners for the HSTA apprenticeship scheme, and where the new recruits will attend on day release leading to an NVQ qualification and an Advanced Apprenticeship in Engineering followed by a final period of specialist training – making it a 4 year Apprenticeship in total.
The new recruits will be following in the footsteps of former HSTA Apprentices here at SVR - Max Green, Ryan Parsons, Dean Parkin and Alan Brookes – and joining Barney Hill and Jacob Cox who are in their first year of their apprenticeships and George Brogan who will complete his apprenticeship this year. The on-the-job training will enable them to experience the Boilershop and Locomotive Works (fitting/machining/running repairs) at Bridgnorth and Carriage and Wagon Mechanical and Body/Paintshop at Kidderminster, before specialising in one area.
The job description and further details are on the link above. The closing date is 12 May 2019. Please note applications directly to SVR cannot be considered. Any questions about the rotation around the departments, terms and conditions and other queries will be addressed with the longlisted candidates who will be selected by the College for us to consider through interview and assessment.
My expectation based on 2018 is that there will be a large number of applications – I have over 40 young people who have enquired about the scheme over the past twelve months to whom I will email the link above, so I am sorry that I am unable to answer any queries from potential candidates or parents/guardians/schools at this stage.

I'm a little bit disappointed with the SVR's lack of public information over the "Timetable C" change for Mon-Thu of this coming week. The official Facebook and Twitter appear to have no information at all alerting people to the change. The website does, which is good, and this is what it has to say: https://www.svr.co.uk/NewsItem.aspx?a=882

Points for clarity of dates affected, a link to the timetable and the apology at the bottom. On the downside, there's no explanation, something that should be automatic when the public service is affected. Yes, you can work it out by digging around on SVR Live, but how many will do that? I'd also like to have seen a specific note that the last trains in each direction depart 10 minutes earlier than usual.

Not a massive issue, but a mildly irritating one. Several million minus points for writing Bridgnorth with an E in Timetable C, too! ;)

Update on the work on Falling Sands viaduct

    https://www.svrtrust.org.uk/shopping.php

Work on the viaduct itself will start in January 2020, once the Christmas and New Year services are over. We'll make the most of the annual six week shutdown period. The line between Kidderminster and Bewdley will remain closed until Easter 2020, although services will run between Bridgnorth and Bewdley.
