I was about to say... there are a few locos there that aren't black - but not many that steam right now. Don't forget the little Green one and the bigger Green one owned by BLS.. again not KWVR locos but they've been there for over 20 years now?

There's also "Tiny", which carries GER blue, and "Lord Mayor", which is green.

As reported elsewhere, 41313 will shortly start its restoration and will hopefully not be eligible as a candidate for this thread in a couple or so years time.

Well there is a story over this engine as when it was due for its 10 year overhaul a vote was put out to the members what colour it was to be painted in and it came back as red again. This was shown to the man who was to overhaul it and he said if I am going to do the work it will be black, so it came out black and not red as the members voted for.

Has GER T26 (LNER E4) ever run in preservation? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GER_Class_T26

I wasn't aware one even existed until recently, and as far as I can tell it hasn't run since it came from BR. Is there a known reason for this? Is it just the nice paintwork holding it together?
I would have thought this would be an ideal loco for heritage line work, fairly small but will pull most loads thrown at it.

At the time in 1975 when it was moved from the Museum of British Transport in Clapham to the soon to be opened N.R.M. at York, it was said to have a cracked frame, and was transported to York on a well wagon due to this. How true that tale may be I have no idea.

Ah the Museum of British Transport Clapham, such happy memories of three visits there in my secondary school summer holidays, still got platform tickets with Clapham Museum printed on them, shame it closed. :(

Thought I would kick in with a mention for the Ex Mersey Railway Cecil Raikes.
Don't think it has been mentioned in this list and to my recollection has never steamed for a long time.

Early 50's I think, Bryan. Here's a photo (apologies for the poor quality) of it at Derby before moving to Kirkby for a further period of storage c. early 60's. I presume, knowing the dire state of the tyres that it went by road. It's a shame that Museums on Merseyside (or whatever their name is this week) seem to have no plans for the loco nor, it seems, willing to let anyone else do something with it.
    Cheers,
    Ray.

I remember hearing that it was stored at one of the Liverpool City Council depots for a while, possibly on West Derby Road or Sheil Road.

Cecil Raikes is in the reserve store and does get visitors.
You can just about make it out in one of the first pictures. It's in a location which makes photography almost impossible. A memorable day out.

It was stored in the open at Breckside Park engineers depot (now a housing estate). I think that they foolishly left the nameplates while at this site.

Last steamed 1954. The boiler dates from the mid 30's

I'm not sure if it's ever run in preservation yet but at the east lancs at bury there's a big 2-8-2 prairie tank (sorry can't remember the number) that's slowly being worked on.

Also the bury standard 4 group have got an ivatt that's either not run in pres or hasn't for many many years. Now 80097 is done their moving onto ivatt 46428. Should be a cracking machine once it's ready.

7229 is the 2-8-2T (not a prairie btw).
Neither 7229 or 46428 have run in preservation.

None of the surviving three 72XX has steamed in preservation making the last ex BR class to have no operational loco in the heritage era. 54 years since the last one steamed in 1965.

Bit of a technicality, but I think you can include the GER 209 class (LNER Y5). One of the class survived the LNER, making the type an ex-BR class (just - scrapped in 1948); while the last surviving loco from the class hasn't steamed since leaving industrial service in the 1950s.

(When it eventually steams, I'd travel to see the GER loco - which I last saw at Woolwich years ago - but probably not the GWR one. :Resistanceisfutile:)
