Yeah, that will be full of rubbish like what has all ready been distributed to the press!!!! To be honest, why the hell should I travel up there, to listen to the xxxx that the chairman puts out?? It's getting stupid and needs nipping in the bud. I love the engine but not the politics that run it! There is only one person on the board that I will trust! I would love to carry on in the support crew of 6201 but not with the current arrangements, the engine being at Crewe will cost alot of money, more than Bury but the chairman and his wife think differently!

Rich, I will speak what I think! I will also say it in person!!!

Well sir, I've been watching this topic from a distance, I don't know a lot of what's going on except what has been posted here. I've been prepared to take the view of "everybody is entitled to his own opinion". But I think with that post you have done yourself a dis-service. I have no wish to be rude or discourteous but you sound to be a very bitter person. You have no idea what will be said at the meeting. "thicko of a chairman and his wife" Hmn.

    Well said Victor

This topic is increasingly unpleasant, are some of you guys out there growing horns? it would seem so from some of the posts on here.

I respect everyones right to an opinion but, there is a right way to say it and a wrong way also.

I quite agree - BUT - It is a fact that the PELS is an unusual setup, and strange things have happened within it to my knowledge for at least 30 years. It must be handwringingly frustrating being on the receiving end of the whims of very odd, and breathtakingly arrogant people, so give the guy a bit of room.

What amazes me is that only four months ago, despite apparently being an active member, he seemed to have no idea what can and does happen. There are people on this forum who did try to sound a warning that all is not as it seems, but seemingly to no avail. Maybe the likes of Roy masked it in recent years, even though there is a very long track record of it.

No one apart from the main protagonists know for sure what's really going on. But's reasonable to assume some sort of hidden agenda might be under way, and I would have thought that those outside the PELS that care about the locomotive would support those within who are being subjected to all this monkeying about.

Yes - there is something very odd going on here.

A friend - without whom the current ticket could not have been afforded - couldn't even get on that 30th August trip as a covert support crew member.

He is a gentleman and well above some of what has been said here, but discussions make it perfectly clear that he does not think a great deal of the engine sitting out in the wind and rain for months on end - but that is down to the whim of one man.

Millom should be attended by those with a vital interest - and Steam and Heritage Railway too.

This is a situation which should be out in the open, and either justifiable - or not.

A good friend of mine is a 6201 member and has just posted this on my Yahoo photo group.

"As a member of the 6201 loco society, I thought I would share the
following news as received by letter today.

The good news is that boiler inspector's report will allow operation
until 2012 provided some work is done, inc. small tubes replaced,
brick arch renewed, some stays renewed etc. The bad news is there is
no money to do this, so raising sufficient funds will determine if
loco returns to main line in 2009. It is interesting to see from the
treasurer's letter that every year from 1998-2008, the operating
expenditure has always been greater than combined sales and operating
fees, resulting in an operating loss each year.

Therefore the society is grateful to receive any donations no matter
how small which will contribute to the loco's hopeful return to the
    main line in 2009."

  9. im not here to cause argument with regards my comments to follow but it sounds like a deliberate ploy to run down the funding

Others are better placed to comment but my perception is that all of us take main line for granted and take it as some honeypot of cash to keep the engines running without actually appreciating just how much it does cost

75mph running causes more wear and tear , state of the track on which the engines run can have a significant impact on wear and tear not to mention the costs of insurance , maintenance of paperwork

How many loco's have returned with the support of either Lottery funding or a benefactor ? and how easily do we forget this ?

Perhaps if the society were a bit more proactive in getting the word about that funds were seriously needed, and offering the chance to purchase an item required for the repairs, ie boiler tube, then more people might well cough up for the chance to see her back in action...

Would I be wrong in suggesting that there may be a one stop solution to bring her back involving a negotiated re-appraisal of the shares in the loco - proposals in connection with which were in play before this debacle, if what I have heard is correct.

On that assumption a grown up attitude amongst the main participants could yet both quickly and painlessly overcome the current position if people would just talk to each other instead of playing at "my train set - not yours". The problem to be overcome then is merely that the loco is trapped in the wrong place for work - but of course - we also know how that happened don't we?

The result might be a win win for everyone and more regular use for the loco.

Clive - you do not own the loco - you are one of a group who are mere stewards of its future, and for that reason we are looking to that group to be pro-active, forward looking, and get that three years more out of what is a superb loco in mainly superb condition.

Over to you - your move

I'm not going to hold my breath Frank!...there needs to be a much more brutal 'outing' to get things back on track....as one who helped with 'financial' arangements to get her through the last overhaul, my wish if such was required, would be for a similar deal, but then the Heritage Centre 'trustees' have made sure that the loco is probably just going to rust away!

Ignore the critics! Take it to the svr!!! The thing with this situation is you cant help feeling help feeling what a waste of a great engine, yes i joke "take it to the SVR" but I for one would rather see it working there than rotting in a siding (I would prefer to see it running at ANY any other preserved railway for that matter). It would appear that Clive would think it HIS engine but............. It's not Clive. The thing that annoys me the most is that the is that when the engine got the heritage lottery funding it was billed as the last money coming to 6201. Then we had all the problems that diminished revenue (eg bridge strike) and we all heard that that because of this it would be difficult to afford another overhaul so the fact is that 6201 should be out earning cash! However, its not (and preserved line work would be better than nothing) and (as far as I read) because the chairman has decided that the course of action then to hell with the rest of us! The engine is owned by a democratic group of people and I for one would be interested to hear the legal side of this argument i.e Clive (and co) has no actual right to dictate what happens to the engine - Only a majority vote should decide the future.

The following was prepared during a working party at Crewe Heritage Centre on Sat 2/11/2008, but not released until the membership had been informed first, which I am advised has been completed today.
I have permission to release the following information.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM CLIVE MOJONNIER CHAIRMAN OF 6201 SOCIETY

After 6201's recent boiler inspection, the following areas were deemed necessary for attention.

    1 Small Tubes ----------------- Replace

    2 Brick Arch ------------------ Replace

3 Some Patch Screws --------- Replace

4 Some Stay Nuts ------------ Replace

Providing all of the above are rectified, we understand that the boiler inspector will grant 3 more years on the Main Line, until March 2012.

It is the society's aim to complete the work prior to March 2009, to ensure that 6201 has the opportunity to operate trains on the National Network until the end of its current boiler certificate which expires in March 2012.

The society's treasurer Tim Powell has already issued an appeal for help with this work, finacial or physical.

It is also the society's intention to ask for help outside the membership through the railway press towards our appeal.

For any further information regarding this statement, please contact the CHAIRMAN DIRECT and not the writer, who was merely posting this on the chairman's behalf.

STEVE BLAKEMORE -- Member of 6201, Working Member and Support Crew Member.

    I wonder who will donate.

She is a fine loco, when she works, but how many steamings has she seen in the last operational 12 months... Probably more light engine miles between Crewe and Bewdley than anything else...
