I'm not sure if this has already been asked (or answered), so apologies if it has but has this loco gone for overhaul a year earlier than expected? I seem to think that it returned to mainline service in August 2008, making that nine years in service....

As I said no offence to anyone, it might just be me having missed the detail somewhere along the line!

    Regards

    Andrew.

Not sure if it was 2008 but on a 7 year mainline certificate it is already two years over what would have expected back then. I am sure WCRC have no intention other than mainline use.

That's why then, I had it in my head that once mainline certified an engine has a ten year ticket. Thanks.

The "rules" are set out in RSSB Group Standard GMRT2003 and successor documents. Basically the period between general boiler exams (full internal, out of frames?) shall not exceed seven years from witnessed hydraulic test. However there are documented considerations that could permit an extension up to 10 years.
The latter appears to be what has occured with 46115, IIRC the first steam test was late 2007, coincidentally similar time as 46100. 46115 reportedly had an intermediate boiler overhaul at year 7. It has proved very effective judging by how well the loco has performed during recent years.

Passing Carnforth this morning looked like she is having her boiler lifted?

Several different threads for this loco, this seems to be the most recent.
I've a piece of film of this loco but I can't identify the location. Filmed from the lineside, loco is hauling what looks to be a Queen Mary Brake on a single track line.
From around 1980. Any ideas? I've looked online but this loco's movements are pretty vague to around this time, Wikipedia doesn't have anything at all from the 1980s.

More than likely at the Dinting Railway Centre (if in LMS Black livery ) . The loco ran two main line trips from there in 1978 after which if memory serves me right it was withdrawn from further main ine use and just operated within the centre.
Can't recall if it left at the closure of the centre in 1990 or before.

Think it was just before closure about '88, '89 when it went to Tyseley. From memory I think the family that owned it had a business in Perry Barr.

    1. 46115 had its main line test run in July 2008

    2. 46115 withdrawn from the main line 12/65; bought for preservation and moved to KWVR 08/1966; following death of owner was sold in 05/69 and moved to Dinting for restoration; returned to main line for 2 runs in 1978 (last in 11/78) before being banned due to changed main line rules; sold to 46115 Scots Guardsman Trust in 05/1979 and moved to Tyseley but shortage of resources saw a further move in 04/2002 to Crewe Heritage Centre; moved to Carnforth base of WCRC in 2006 for restoration and test run successfully concluded on 11/07/2008; first main line charter ran on 06/09/2008 with a Carnforth - Chester charter for St James Church.

Thanks, yes comparing the video with photos online taken at Dinting seems to confirm that's the location of the film. My age was only in single digits when Dinting closed!
Question answered in only 10 minutes, need a harder question next time. Cheers!

    Good to see.

*waits patiently for speculation on a test run and the inevitable livery froth*

Hmm I was thinking that. Not often you get anything like that from inside 10A

Boiler painted black and in frames but no cladding from what I could see. The rest of the loco looked complete from my brief glance

The cladding was all on. The Firebox cladding was green, the first ring from the smokebox was gloss red and the second was black. (Cue livery froth.)

    Chimney was in red primer.

    Deflectors and rods were absent.
