Do explain? As this is a mystery to me, been a DB operation for as long as I can remember.

I think John means that shortage of DB crews is not the reason for it being operated by WCR.

    So what's the reason then?

Precisely. I am guessing the reason is possibly commercial, but John is indicating he knows the reason and it would interesting to know as there has been speculation lately (on here and in the railway press) regarding Db staff availability.
West Coast covered Tornado's test runs recently due to DB resource issues, they are also covering all Aberdeen runs, this has led to speculation (in light of DB being a much slimmer company these days) and their ability to cover everything they used to.
The Bristol to Kingswear runs always seemed ideal for DB / Riviera, as a repeat itenary. West Coast on the other hand were pulling out of Birmingham not so long ago due to lack of crews.

More to do with lack of DB authorised locos being available during the summer I think. No one knew if the A4 would get its extended boiler certificate and there were problems with Tornado as a result of the Ebor Flyer incident. I know decisions have to be made quite early on and I don’t blame DB for playing safe. I’m sure they have the same steam crews as they had last year.

Don’t speculate! I said ‘I believe’, I could be wrong but with the same crews available I can’t see that being a reason.

It always pays to check the latest info on here! I turned out for the outward British Pullman, believing it to be running out on the LSWR route to Salisbury, so I got to my favoured spot at Limpley Stoke in good time. After waiting ages, I checked on here, only to learn it was routed straight down the GWML - doh! I wasn't gonna make the same mistake for the return, so I headed off to Sydney Gardens in Bath. I wasn't disappointed!

After studying that wonderful image of Clan Line passing through Sydney Gardens this evening, I have to say that I am happy to see her haul the VSOE for ever and a day.

A superb locomotive kept in pristine condition by a loyal group of supporters. I thank you. <BJ>

No, just a change of operator. DB have plenty of crew in this area.
Just to add, DB were involved crewing wise on three trips on one day recently. Fully crewed on 60163 to Holyhead, with a driver on hire to both Vintage trains and saphos.
Just to add, we have more available steam crews now than last year.

Thank you. Just would be nice to see more variety on the Pullman.

Then clearly you don't understand the arrangements for the British Pullman. It is not a train for enthusiasts and multi loco choices.

Plus as Sam 60103 lives in Scotland it's not like he is going to see it very often. More irrelevant posting from him and a further demonstration of a lack of understanding of how things work.

And more let's pick on some newcomer who has dared to tread on the sacred ground of mainline steam from some on NP.............
