Correct and repeated on here many times (and equally incorrectly many times elsewhere!). If we want to be pedantic, there was a slight revision to the hue of BR Passenger Green, post-1956, whereby it was supposedly slightly more yellowy. Added to the fact that there would be variations in the paint mix (which can still happen today with computerised mixing), it's probably largely academic.

Whilst the original manufacturers still provide their own offerings, Land Rover Green has often been referred to as good an approximation as any.

Paint and livery froth? Never-ending amusement!

Malachite green was one of several Southern Railway liveries.

Quite - and very different from Olive Green, if that is the correct technical term - and I have known the two be rather embarrassingly confused when a decision what livery to paint va loco in was being made! :Muted:

Try here for an explanation: http://www.southern-locomotives.co.uk/News/news_2014.html and search the page for the sub-heading "British Railways Green" (nearly at the bottom of the page).

As posted above malachite green was a Southern Railway colour, introduced IIRC, by Bulleid. The L.M.S. only used 2 colours on their locos Crimson Lake (inherited from the M.R.) not "maroon" and black. 46115 is one of the few rebuilt Scots that could, accurately, be painted in LMS post-war black and was painted so when it was first restored in 1978/9. Since its last restoration it has only appeared in BR passenger loco green, the same livery that all the Scots ended up in. Hope this clarifies things.

It was the only rebuilt Scot fitted with smoke deflectors to appear in postwar black.

Wasn't a Scot painted experimental Apple Green though? A friend of mine had a Mainline Model of it.

As far as I'm concerned it will be good to see Scots Guardsman back on the main line in whatever colour 10A chooses. And if it's green, since it's unlikely to be alongside 46100 anytime soon I'm not bothered what version they choose either. That said, let's agree that it would be nice for loco and tender to emerge in the same colour. We all remember that strange period when Braunton was running around with loco and tender in slightly different shades of what was supposed to be the same green.

And even after this pretty concise explanation, the froth goes on.

C'mon James, have a look in the paint store and see if you can find some purple paint, slap it on a loco and stand back and watch the fun.:D

Probably no purple in the stores Victor, but plenty of WCRC Corporate red I suspect (grabs coat and runs for the door!)
