Great Central Railway Goods Galore Gala May 11th/12th 2019

The Cavalcade yesterday afternoon.....

 

It looks to have been a good gala. Am wondering if the GCR got any complaints from the nimbys (oops newbies) at Woodthorpe because of the intensive train service.

Hello Richard some lovely images there. Yes, I really miss the opportunity of linesiding at the GCR. However, living 200 miles away I really cannot justify regular visits to the railway any longer so with regret I cancelled my membership as well.
I do wish the railway every success with the extension project and chucked in a few quid a while back and will make the occasional trip when the feeling takes me!

I visited the GCR on Saturday with threats of rain in the weather forecast. However it wasn't all doom and gloom with some pleasant sunshine from mid morning on at least until the rain did begin mid afternoon. Having started at Loughborough early morning I moved to Swithland where there was scheduled to be plenty of action. I was correct. I took the decision to head north to Quorn once the rain started and moved up the line to the Woodthorpe bridge battleground for the doubleheaded Stanier 8F pass. (The native's appeared to be quiet on the bridge) A great day out but - as the GCR Railmail stated - the crowds did not appear to fill the carriages. Such a shame after the huge efforts made by so many staff and volunteers.

A nice day down at the GCR on the Sunday. Many chances to get some decent photographs in the stunning weather and interesting to see where people were continuing to go to try and find a new and good vantage point.

So “the crowds stayed away “. Up to this year I had attended ALL days of all goods related galas , alternating between riding and photing, staying at least one night in a local hotel. With the withdrawal of my lineside, I no longer wish to make the 300 mile round trip.... result for GCR is no ticket to ride each gala, no catering sales, breakfast lunches and snacks, no emporium sales, no membership fees when current membership lapses and no more donations to GCR projects or raffles, plus hit to local hospitality industry. My life is the poorer for it but my bank account is healthier.

 

Some top stuff there fella, damn the plane flying over head at one point for spoiling the chimney chatter on the empties!

I'm curious about the centre vehicle on the parcels train (the one with the suburban carriages) - it looks like some form of CCT but is it one of the LNER's Car Carriers?
