My point is ( and this is speculative) that an additional running line, (which may well be a through line) on the far south side of the station - if it had a new north facing 'platform 5' might demolish the old south facing platform on the rhylstone branch without some agreement in place not to do this...

I wouldn't worry too much, it's not likely to happen for years yet. ATM the main focus is on bolton abbey stations new platforms.

Once sorted at some point the signalling & signalbox will want sorting as well.

Bolton Abbey or running to Skipton signalling?

Bolton Abbey - yes for searchlight signals, no for Semaphores (at present). London Underground frame installed to control all.

Skipton - noting installed yet, but as Embsay junction - Skipton will be controlled from York there shouldn't be much to do on our side!

Nice to here, searchlight colour signals be something different to semaphores, eith the LU frame is it an easier installation to install compared to traditional mechanical frames

Main reason for the Colour light and electo-pneumatic combo I believe is due to the size of the site (1/2 mile from the up outer home to the down home) and the number of leavers that would be required for full mechanical installation given the requirements of the new layout. I also believe that a small amount of automated electric signalling is being incorporated to save on having an air-compressor running continuously!

Does anyone know something about their current projects (list of near and far future Projects)?
How do they progress with the Bolton Abbey station development (new platform and what else?)?

    Cheers

A far as i recall, the new platform at Bolton Abbey station is at an advanced stage of building, feasability studies on the reconnection to Skipton have been positive, but it isnt something that Embar could do or fund without a lot of external funding and co-operation, There is also a potential redevelopment of Skipton Station to accomodate a re instated Colne branch or Passnger services to Clitheroe under consideration which might help, or hinder Embars ambitions in this direction.

I was always told that EP points were unreliable because of the constant battle with air leaks and the switches are very unforgiving of careless fingers between switch and stock rail as they go over with a bang.

Any switch will crush your hands no matter what type. (Except Hornby or Peco.)

True but if you know what you're doing the sound of an electric motor gives you some warning. However the one person I knew who had their fingers crushed (in an electrically worked set of points) simply lacked situational awareness, and you can't really legislate for that other than by maybe not having them lineside in the first place.

    Morning All,

I'm planning a return visit to embsay soon & was wondering what might be running? Last time I visited they had a GWR tank loco out plus a couple of industrials which I think included an austerity tank.

Also does anybody know which if any of the local taxi firms are dog friendly.

I was there at the start of the month and it was the GWR tank that was in use.

Also noted the 56xx on duty a few weeks back.
They have a MK1 bg which seems to have been part converted to create disabled access and Mini bar, which (Together with the Bulleid Open on loan from VCT) looks very nice in its new coat of crimson and cream paint ...

Yes they've got some smartly well turned out stock at embsay. It's not the biggest line around but it's got bags of character.

Most of the time it's 5643 but think they've got an austerity 0-6-0 as well. Also the class 14 D9513 works some turns along with 37294. 08773 works on demo freight days when you can bag a ride in the brakevan which is something different.

Both 5643 and the Austerity 'Cumbria' (WN 3794 of 1953) owned by the FRT are on hire there at the moment.
