Unfortunately a lot of stuff comes up for sale like this and there seems to be few to nobody interested in buying them. It is not just of course the purchase price you need to be worried about, it is the time/commitment/money that you would need to put in to get it running again. Personally I am totally put off any involvement with loco restoration just by the sheer cost and the fact you have to contract a lot of the work out which again means a lot of cost. The only way I could do it would be an existing project where someone else was doing the paying the bills. A small loco like this is generally of more interest to an individual owner than a railway looking for serious motive power.

With this loco in particular there was some issues with it some years ago where a boiler inspector passed it as okay to run and then a railway it visited inspected it and found the boiler plates were too thin and it was dangerous. I think the boiler inspector was then sued for missing it. It was reported in the rail magazines at the time. I would want to find out a lot more details about that, what exactly the issues were and what was done to sort it out.

Um - but even if there are plenty of prospective purchasers about looking for that type of engine, if you pitch your starting price way, way too high, they may not even bother to make you an offer at all, and sit tight until a more reasonably priced engine comes along.

It's a bit like that station-converted-into-a-house on the Cambrian line. The house itself is in good shape (though I think the decor is utterly tasteless), and the surrounds are lovely, yet despite the owners having dropped the price significantly, it's still up for sale - because, locals say, the asking price is well over the top.

The inspector concerned retired shortly afterwards.

    All,

    **UPDATE**

Asking Price reduced to £25,000 OVNO!

Peckett 1555 "Ivor the Engine" is for sale. The current owner has relocated further abroad and now the loco is surplus to his requirements. The engine is offered in "as is" condition with it's current boiler ticket expired. Known boiler work is that a re-tube is required.

    Motion will also need attention.

included in the sale is the "Ivor the engine" license to allow the loco to run as such for events etc as provided by Dan Postgate.

Asking price has been reduced, the owner would be happy to sell if enquiries and offers around the £27k mark were submitted. As per previously mentioned, I am working on behalf of the owner and all previous comments and feedback have been fed back to him etc. Let's try to keep this positive and get "Ivor" a new home.

Serious enquiries to email me on albemcdohl@gmail.com to arrange a viewing at the Swindon and Cricklade Railway.

It was £25,000 in post 1 back in March 2018. Not much of a reduction! Maybe throw in a fondu set and cuddly toy or even an Amazon Echo?

It was originally £35k! It was independently valued at no more than "£25k" the owner is gradually coming around to seeing a little sense. Just don't shoot the messenger.

The poor loco has suffered enough....

A video has appeared on Facebook of "Ivor" in steam and whistling for the NHS. So was just wondering what actually happened to the loco and has it now been overhauled?
The previous comment states going back to a standard Peckett, due to the video would it be correct to presume this is now not happening?

Possibly the purchaser thought they were buying "just another Peckett", but found that Ivor the Engine worked its magic. I mean, Ivor was never "just" anything, was he.

Had it been fixed now,? Has any railways ever been caught running an engine without a ticket and what happens if they do?
