Got me thinking, with Duchess, GWR Streamline Deco Railcar and Mallard together, how about restreamlining the uncut half of this? Costs and efforts could then help the 35011 GSN group, but more importantly mean all 4 Groups Deco masterpieces can be lined up from this iconic era?

If you wanted to do a line up you could put her smokebox door number on 34051. From the front only die hards could tell the difference

Given that plenty of 'unrebxactly would be achieved by thisuilt' Light Pacifics are in preservation, including as has been pointed out the NRM's own Sir Winston Churchill, I am not sure what exactly would be achieved by this

We already have one good m.n. dicected so most visitors to N.R.M. who want to understand/study physically how the parts inside a steam locomotive help it to run if keen enthusiasts want to see the physics, as for a streamlined version in steam for others who like to see a working streamlined m.n. how about 34092 at E.L.R.

I’ve always thought could they attach a smoke deflector to the “open” side? Could have a line up of Merchants like a mini great gathering. Currently have 3 in steam and if you include 35029 could have a 4 loco line up. That would be pretty special.

Not to mention my all time favourite ‘ugly duckling’, if/when she returns to the mainline - Tangmere.

If you want a streamliner line up, then why not use 34051 to depict the Southern approach to streamlining, no need to Touch 35029, As regards a great gathering of Merchant navies at York Whilst it may sound a good idea @Victor might not allow us to have them back , as like all people that have seen the light, he might try to claim them for Yorkshire but its a mouth watering thought to see this line up in the yard, 35005, 35006, 35018 35028 in steam, with 35029 in the museum , if you want to make it a Bulleid convention, add 34051,C1, add an rebuilt WC/BB.

Unfortunately sticking a bit of phony streamlining on one side of Ellerman Lines wouldn't make it an 'unrebuilt' MN unless you were going to remove the Walschaerts valve gear and seriously modify some pretty major other parts of the loco. I can think of a great many other projects on which the money could be better spent.

It would be akin to altering the cab front and sticking some D6332 transfers on to a Cl.25 and calling it a Cl.22.

i suspect Oliver would turn in his grave if you had a Bulleid convention featuring rebuilt MNs

Sorry, but no. Why create a Frankenlocomotive? The average 'normal' would confused, and would be hard pressed to spot the difference between the air-smoothed side of an original MN and an original WC/BoB anyway.

Then, as has been mentioned earlier, there's the expense. Far better to get the rollers under 35029 working again, imo.

I'd like to see that too but then you'd have to put a guard around the motion to stop children (and idiots) hurting themselves.

The money would be better spent putting a more useful loco back into steam, ie the Duchess, Green Arrow or one of the smaller locos like Hardwicke.
