I wonder what they have done to fix the whistle, and why it took so long.

I wonder why it has taken so long for anyone to notice the "improved" whistle - it has been running with it for several weeks.

I would have booked as well. Haven't had any trips behind Scotsman on the ML yet.

Going well this morning though Wandsworth Town - on time, load 12 and no diesel. Spike Hodges on the regulator.

Eased off through Woking on down fast due to platform clearance speed restriction. Good to see Jo Public entering into the spirit of the occasion

Because it's still rubbish, " improvement" is an overstatement

From memory, A3 whistles were always high pitch, single tone affairs. The problem with Flying Scotsman in the past, was the whistle "shrieked" and was difficult to hear. How on earth it got away with being a warning device, I will never know. From the evidence at Woking and Brookwood yesterday, the new whistle has hit the nail on the head. Good tone, loud and fit for purpose. What is more, it is, I would suggest, how the A3 whistles used to sound.

.....and likely to now have the same effect as if you were standing next to a K1/K4/B1 when its whistle sounds!

My footage of Flying Scotsman down south through Hampshire. Filmed at West Grimstead, Lockerley and Grateley. Enjoy.

Approaching Southampton Central on its afternoon mini tour from Salisbury. Running 22 minutes late but allowed ahead of the late running (5 minutes) Weymouth to Waterloo. IMG_1966.JPG

Yesterday's run to Salisbury, seen at Wandsworth Town, Woking, and a foot crossing in Addlestone (the 'improved' whistle really plays a part here!)

I was further up on Platform 3, thought it would accelerate into the station as it had a green, proved wrong!

A bit of praise where it's due to the local newspaper group in Southern Hampshire.
The Southampton Echo, Hampshire Chronicle and Romsey Advertiser linked web site did not carry detailed timings for 60103 yesterday, only an outline of the route. They did publish a summary of the Network Rail and BTP briefing of "keep off the railway".

    Cheers, Neil

Yes there were only 7 of us in the car park at Southampton Central and about 8 people visible on the footbridge towards Millbrook.

And its done the route a lot in the recent past, a lot of the lineside punters have been there and done that.
