Progress is going well and it is now offsite and being prepared to be stripped down for painting. Lots of painting to do before we get to top coats and agreed colour final coats. An interesting 'problem' is that we have discovered that it isn't square (there was no change to survey it before it was taken apart at Maidenhead) but it is wider at one end than the other.

The CWR have started to introduce online tickets.

At present (as we are testing still) are only available for 'Cream Tea Specials' over the August Bank Holiday weekend. Tickets cost £15 for adults (with reductions for Children & Seniors). The tickets for the train are valid all day, but the Cream Teas will only be served on the 14.05 departure from Wallingford.

Other tickets including our famous 'Fish and Chips Train', and our normal running days will be on sale very soon.

We also introducing online membership soon too.

Online membership is now available for the CWR, if you have been meaning to join for a while and haven't got round to printing the form, finding a chequebook and stamp then you can now join with credit/debit card or Paypal.

This is probably the most exciting timey to join the Cholsey and Wallingford Railway since the 1980s.

We are starting the station building programme with the reconstruction of a historic platform canopy dating back to Brunel’s day, even before our railway opened in 1866. Plans are in hand for the station building facing onto Hithercroft Road, based on Abingdon station which was demolished over a quarter of a century ago.

It is also a great time to join the CWR because the board reduced subscription costs and has improved the Members’ Benefits programme. They have also decided that all Membership Renewals will be at the end of March, at the start of our operating year.

But Maidenhead station and presumably the canopy were not there until 1871. So it might be to a design similar to Brunel ones but not dating back to his day.

There is a good amount of evidence that the canopy was first situated at Maidenhead Riverside ( a temporary station on the east side of the river) or another location station before moved to Maidenhead. We know it was at Maidenhead during the last days of Broad Gauge (see photo on website) but it doesn't appear to have been there in the 1872 map (shortly after the station opened).

Its Wallingford's bunkfest this weekend, with events going on all over Wallingford including regular trains during the day and evening trains too for the first time.

With the Kinecroft main stage only a 10 mintue walk from Wallingford station, using the CWR is a great way to get to and from the festival and enjoy a beer a beer or two - the late evening trains connect directly at Cholsey with services to Didcot and all stations to Reading

Enjoy singers and a great selection of beers on the train - including Loddon Brewery beers, and buskers on the platform at Wallingford.

It's a double header weekend at the Cholsey & Wallingford this weekend. Saturday is Agatha Christie day for Wallingford Museum with trains running to Cholsey, in addition we are running a joint event of shunting engines with Didcot Railway Centre.

We have plans to run all three of our locos across the weekend subject to availability and the possibility of a double headed run on Sunday.

All day tickets cost £10 for adults (single ticket £5) and reductions for seniors, children and under 5's are free. Tickets are available to buy online or on the day at either station.

The busiest Santa season - thank you to all our visitors

Thank you to all our customers making it the busiest Santa season that any of the current volunteers can remember, with over 2,200 passengers carried during the 2018 Santa season, making it the busiest the current board members can remember.

Membership and Members Day - 14th April

2019 promises to be an exciting year for the CWR with the 'Maidenhead Canopy' due to completed and erected at Wallingford. With that in mind our 2019 operating season is still being finalised to fit around the necessary building work.

Our first event is our members day on 14th April, when members can travel for free and have a look around the railway and give feedback and learn about the various volunteering oppotunties available. If you are considering joining the CWR then membership price is £12 per year (with discounts for seniors and couples) which includes 4 free return journey's per year? You can join online or download the membership form at: https://www.cholsey-wallingford-railway.com/membership

    Signalling - a 10 year plan

A decade-long investment in positive signalling control is planned, this scheme will be stage-worked, starting at the Wallingford end, with each stage being a further logical development. The scheme will provide a number of benefits to the railway, including capacity enhancements an improved visitor ambience.

Naturally, all of this is subject to funds and volunteer labour being available, both of which will be very welcome. Why not email signals@bunkline.uk, or use the contact us form, for more information, or to get involved?

There's been great progress at the Cholsey and Wallingford with the acquisition of a small amount of land from Lidl to enable the construction of the canopy in its prefer location and orientation and also space to construct a run-round loop - something the original Wallingford station didn't have at the platform!

We've also been added back onto the national rail network, with the inclusion of the line on the 'London and South East' rail map for Summer 2019. Its great to see that we look twice the length of the CPRR too :)

Have you thought about joining the Cholsey and Wallingford Railway? Adult Membership is just £1 and you can now join for just £10 through to 31 March 2020.

Benefits include 4 free tickets to visit the railway during the year. Our Santa trains and Bunkfest are excluded from the free ticket offer as these are our most popular days, but you can use the tickets on most other operating days.

We are starting the station building programme with the reconstruction of a historic platform canopy dating back to Brunel’s day, even before our railway opened in 1866, having recently acquired a strip of land from Lidl to enable the construction of the canopy and run round loop.
