Both MHR and ERPS have moved on in the last few years. It's probably best to leave old animosity undisturbed in history.

I think it,s great that people are moving on. Sadly not everyone thinks that way.

Yep I read it carefully. But have I mis-read the "operated jointly" part?

This is fantastic news! - She certainly will be well looked after at the MHR. Does anyone know if there will be anything in the contracts about her having to be housed under cover?

So does this mean that the Mid Hants will be responsible for day to day with the loco whilst the ERPS continue to operate and promots its mainline forays?

Must say its a bit of a dissapointment that she will be confined to the south of the country.

Where does it say she'll be 'confined'? If she's to be based in the south (where the most demand from charter companies will be, where presumably the ERPS support crew live and where she is earning money on a preserved line), its inevitable that the south will be where she spends the vast majority of her time... and given how many mainline engines are based in the north of england and the midlands compared to the south, i really dont think it should be too much of a dissapointment lol :D

Add to that that a Maunsell 'Lord Nelson' isn't exactly inappropriate in the south, whereas I'd argue they weren't especially common up north. Guess they'll just have to manage with the A4, Duchess, Riley's engines, Leander and Tornado...

Its the best place for her. A southern engine on a southern railway.what's the point of having a Southern engine up north. Maybe we could have 30777 back down south as well.
If 850 does make it to the MHR maybe someone could do a rail tour from the MHR to Swanage Railway or possible at some point in time a tour from MHR to Bluebell Railway. How cool would that be.

By the time the Bluebell get to East Grinstead Lee , 850 will be well out of ticket so dont hold your breath.

Sorry Ian, I didn't mean anything by it! I just meant from another users post about a Southern engine up north.... Be good to see Tangmere down South alot more - Especially with my Favourite driver; who always seems to be on the footplate..... \:D/ Always does a fantastic job especially the last time I saw him at Whitstable and chased him to Paddock Wood..........

Yes, we have certainly been starved of Tangmere tours in the south.

Clan Line has the VSOE contract, which they honour while not running enthusiast tours n order to guarantee the availability for the proper money spinning jobs with the VSOE, and there is little call for double headers on the VSOE (what would be the point, the patrons generally won't care, they tend to be people going for a trip out rather than "gricers" as such), so you might be waiting a long time for that.

Hey you could very well be right Chris - But you know what these mainline Steam owners are like - They have done this before and no doubt they will do it again and imagine the punters piled on a 13 coach set like all of us? What a joy that will be!! Hey let me dream..... \:D/

Isn't it a bit of an exaggeration to use a word like "starved"? Tangmere will have done at least seven trips to Kent by the end of the year, along with one to Weymouth, one to Winchester one to Salisbury and two to Chichester, and there may be others that I have missed. Steam Dreams already have her booked up for several trips in the south next year.

As things stood, with Clan Line tied up with VSOE work, Tangmere was for a while the only other loco able to run in Kent without gauging issues. Now we have 70013 Oliver Cromwell and hopefully soon 850 Lord Nelson.

Still, I would not complain at further chances to see her and travel behind her down here in the South. I went on the Weymouth trip in August last year. The return trip especially (apart from being shoved up Upwey Bank by a diesel) was superb.

Let's not forget - twenty years ago, if anyone had said that it would be possible forty years after the end of Southern Steam to travel from London to Weymouth or Canterbury behind a Bulleid Pacific, they would have been dismissed as a lunatic. We have much to be thankful for - especially those of us in the South who can remember the main line steam-starved 70's and 80's.
