I believe the turning manoeuvre has been changed so that it can spend a few minutes at Newcastle Central. Sorry, I don't have updated timings.

That's curious. Further down the page it states:-

"Following this final test run, Tornado will enter the National Railway Museum’s (NRM) paint shop where she will lose her now familiar test livery of photographic grey before going on display at the museum. The locomotive will be based at the NRM, York, until at least February 2009."

Not sure there's been time for a repaint so perhaps just a logo or so? Maybe good publicity to get a few more column inches. If you're nearby you've just got to go and see? Look forward to photos/videos - wish I were there.

That said, they are a bugger to remove when you want to apply a decent paint finish...

Would make more sense if NX supplied some rolling stock in place of the Ex Virgin MkIIs!

The page on the A1ST web site quoted above has a picture of Tornado with the web-site address on the tender replaced by the National Express name in red and blue. No other changes noticeable to me.

The same page says that she arrives in Newcastle station at 20:43, waits for approx. 15 minutes then goes to turn. No departure time is given, but it says it will be from Tyne Yard, which implies that the diesel on the back will pull the train round the back of the triangle.

Good luck to all involved. I look forward to seeing the videos from Northallerton and elsewhere in the morning =P~

That's some set of jump leads on the back of the tender!

Seriously, looks like they've got some kind of telemetry planned - anyone know what they're intending to measure and how?

    Good luck Tornado =D>

Well i went to Northallerton and you literally couldn't move on the platform for the amount of people, and i'd urge people to start talking notice of the signs, "Stand Well Back behind the Yellow lines" i saw people standing next to the platform edge when the NXEC trains are coming along, even i got scared and i was back by the fence, only takes a person to loose their balance and their gone.
Also Flash photography again, major factor tonight more so with trains doing 100mph or above.

Anyway, fantastic sight! And that Chime whistle is fantastic, had it blasting for ages on the approach

    Video Now online.

The Chime whistle was donated, and is off 60023 "Golden Eagle" originally,

With respect to all the wires, there are Sensors all over the loco to see how it behaves will at speed,
    Very smooth ride apparently!!

Many thanks to Ralph and everyone else who was out to record this historic event; but most of all well done to the A1 Trust.
I do think it sounds much better with the chime whistle.

Thank you all for your excellent videos. =D> =D> An emotional and magnificent sight. I bet there were not any dry eyes in the support coach! I hope they keep the chime whistle on her as it is more fitting for her size and for the name Tornado.

Well done Ralph, can I humbly suggest you try and let the loco get closer before zooming back, let it fill the viewfinder first. I add this is not a criticism of your work. :smt038 :smt041

Also I hope you were not too scared visiting Gods Own County. \:D/

Of course I'm sat on my a*** watching the end of the one show, and realised I had missed it and I only live 500 yds from the track near Shipton. I blamed her indoors for not reminding me. ](*,) ](*,) ](*,)

    Regards

I appreciate your comment Alan, but in my defence, in the darkness all I could see was the headlight coming at me like the proverbial bat, whistle screaming, finesse went out of the window...... I amazed that I managed to pan round fairly smoothly without losing the shot to sky or platform.
We did stop at a nice pub, The Kings Arms in Sandhutton, for supper and a jar before sneaking back onto the M1/M62 before anyone clocked our dodgy accents.

Well as someone who grew up spotting on the old GN I am not so sure. It always raised the excitement level a bit when someone shouted "Eccy up" and then we heard the wailing in the distance and someone else would shout "Streak", (as if we needed telling) and then that distinctive profile would appear and grow in size until she thundered past. Doesn't seem quite right to me on an A1. That said I don't really care, an A1 at large again in 2008? - I'm dreaming, wake me up in time for tea!
