Excellent line up. Really looking forward to this. Steam Gala of the year for me I think. A first ever visit of a King to the Moors?

This does look like a fantastic collection of engines with some for everyone. It will be fantastic to see the King attack the climb to Goathland Summit, but theres also the Hall which will be impressive too.
Meanwhile the K1 being back will be great and Union joining the gala will be stunning. Having the 9F, Lambton tank and Lucie joining the gala as new will also be very special.

The single-chimney 9F and the Hall should make one heck of a noise on the 1 in 49!

Please can the NYMR go and put Repton and the S15 double-heading on trains. It will be fantastic to see them do this and I'm sure many from elsewhere will be really pleased that they are together for the whole gala weekend...

I'd like to see them together at some point but it would be nice to see them on their own, too, especially the S15.

Hotel's booked, doing my devotions to the weather gods, and looking forward to the event as usual.
I like double headers provided they are meaningful, in this case two Southern engines together fits the bill. Just hope we don't get something like the J27 piloting the King. Now the Hall and King together would be nice :D!

No! They need to stay together - constantly! All the time! People will love it seeing them two together... people like me in particular...

The NYMR doesn't tend to like double headed trains unless the locos are relatively small. When they get to Pickering it presents problems running round as the headshunt only holds one loco Thus, the train has to stop with the train engine behind the fouling point. This affects the rear of the train which is effectively one coach further back and when the locos run round, one at a time, the second loco ends up in advance of the starter. It is also a problem with down trains as the platforms at Levisham and Goathland are short. At Levisham you will end up with only two coaches of a seven coach standard train on the platform because of the need to stand behind the starter and not block the level crossing. It's for the above reasons that trains tend to be top and tailed rather than double headed when two locos are involved.

And every loco facing North as well?
We can but dream of seeing Newtondale swamped with photographers instead of Beck Hole for a change.

At least two locos face north at the moment, Bryan. It actually poses a problem at Grosmont for trains running through to Whitby as with a loco facing north, you have about three feet between the column stopping point and SPADding. The board can't be pulled off beforehand to mitigate this, either.

OK irrespective of which pair of locos to double head. Bearing in mind some want [at least] more locos facing north. How about running the Southern pair one facing North the other South and double head them nose to nose, that'll please "the Gallery" [i.e. the photographers]:mad::rolleyes::Chillout:!

Perhaps some of those with home fleet requests should recognise the railway runs every day for 6 months a year and visit more than for the gala .
A normal running day will see more action than many railways do on a gala .

Thanks for this - I'm aware of most of it. However, the main aim of getting the Southern pair to double head, or top and tail all weekend is that they would be on just one train, bugger off - and make way for something decent! ;)

(Much as you can bet some Southern fans, will want the same with the Western pair, I'm siding with the latter... Of course I jest - it looks like one of the best gala line ups in years!!)

Some of us are true steam fans and will be delighted to see such a cornucopia of steam in action, no matter which company built the locos involved. The highlight for me will be 92134 evoking memories of New England “Spaceships” on the GN. Doubt it will be that dirty though.
