    hi

I was recently looking on the EWS disposals webpage when i found this - picture below

EWS are wishing to dispose of this - the last unpresevered queen mary brake.

If anyone is interested it is linked below how to get in contact with them.

A very reliable source of mine claims the deadline to register interest on this vehicle has already passed.

He also says EWS are looking at a vastly overpriced amount for it too. ](*,)

How much is a brake van really worth ? I've heard of a G.W.R. 'Toad changing hands for £5k,
but a 'Queen Mary is a bit too big for the average preserved line goods rake. I can't imagine this vehicle fetching a similar amount , especially with money supply the way it is.

Me neither, with scrap only fetching £25 a ton at the moment and this is a 20 ton vehicle, work that one out for yourself.

    They aren't half comfortable, though.

Scrap value would be what alot of people I know would pay, however EWS apparently wanted about 10 times the price of its scrap value.

Too right! The stove roaring away, a lid of tea on the go and a couple of hundred tons of engineers train between me and a standard 4 tank, that was the life!

Yes I did on behalf of the wagon group on the Mid-Hants.

Went to see it at Bescot a week ago today. It is dual braked and mechanically sound although the woodwork is shot to pieces with every kind of rot you can imagine and all will have to be replaced.

I was there on the viewing day from 8.30am till 12 noon and as far as I can ascertain I was the only person there in the morning, but cannot speak for the afternoon.

Fingers crossed I will know the result tomorrow.

    Regards
    Chris

We had an EWS Queen Mary brake van in the yard at Didcot a few years ago, I believe it was alloctated to us, so that we could run unbraked wagons over to the yard, it disapeard after a few months, if it was there any longer, I think we would have painted it in SR livery.

Without wanting to start World War Three with a livery debate, what other later liveries could these vans have had say since the early 1950,s ?.

Just heard today that we were unsuccessful in our bid for this vehicle , so does anyone know who it went to please?.

That said someone several months ago did a list of where the preserved "Queen Mary,s" are and what condition they are in, so could someone please point me in the right direction?.

    Thanks
    Chris

We put in a bid at the NLR as well and were unsuccessful. Would be interested to to see who won as well.

Aln Valley didn't get it either. Charlie said it has gone to someone in preservation, but can't say who yet.
