Given that I have been misrepresented, I reserve the right to set out the facts and let folk make up their own minds.

Mike is entitled to hold and to express his point of view. Fact selection is something else.

Exactly what the letter does. As Mike did not see fit to comment.

The problem is that the PLC is not very good at publicising any news, good, bad, indifferent, or even interesting. The critical comments here are a direct result of this failing.

The WSR track appeal edition was three editions ago now.

    51370F09-70C9-4F57-8817-A5CDEE65D5FC.jpeg

Last week’s carried the following MRLG-inspired piece on page 2 which tended to overshadow the 40th Anniversary ad and beer festival pieces later.

This week’s edition carried my letter, which is rather more upbeat than Mike gives me credit for. It will be interesting to see if they do anything. Incidentally the front page dealt with Minehead being 10th from last in a Which survey of holiday resorts - something for MRLG to focus on, perhaps.

Mike, no doubt spluttering on his morning coffee, must have missed my other contribution to this week’s Free Press. I’ll post that separately for time travellers.;)

Time travelling diesel in this week’s West Somerset Free Press.

Getting positive stories in the local paper is easy.

I have not seen this loco so cannot comment on it, but I can tell you that for British Railways Loco Green there was a choice of two different very similar shades of green from two different British Standards. These were: BS 2660 colour No. 6-074 of 1955 and BS 381C 224 Deep Bronze Green which as far as I know is still current. BS 2660 was I believe replaced in 1972 by BS4800, the green shades of which would be totally unauthentic for painting locomotives. Looking at various locomotives and rolling stock spread over heritage railways there is a huge variation in shades because the owners and custodians either don't know or care what paint they use as long as it's a rough approximation.

This opportunity presumably, was open to anyone within the age and qualifications. Too late now, as it is time expired.

Before mention of it being only applicable to passengers is made then I have to say most here on NP - even us oldies - are potential passengers.

While the WSR plc might not publicise every single thing that happens they do have a news feed on their web site.
The WSRA maintains a similar feed and, good friend of the railway, Steve Edge picks a lot of these things up from multiple sources and publicises them through his excellent site.
However, I accept the railway could do better and would love to sit down and talk with you about this sometime.

There is a life beyond Nat Pres.

But I thought you might like to read the original MRLG piece to put the rest in context.

Do not see why even the thickest "Joe Public" would see it as WSR policy when it responds to an article that does nothing but slag off GWR. As a TOC who seems to have to fight one of its own biggest shareholders as well as a DfT that seems to be loosing the plot by the week, I am sure a shuttle from Taunton to BL is a long way down the list of priorities, but I am sure they were grateful for "the input" from the Minehead Group.
Still never let the facts get in the way of a story as they say!

Whilst I would agree that there are some rather random shades out there on various locos & stock I can assure you that at least some owners take considerable care and have paint specially mixed to ensure the best possible match to ex BR paint sample panels which have survived. One case in point, with current WSR relevance, is 7802 (and soon its sister 7812) which was painted with a batch of specially mixed paint, for several locos, prepared several years ago through the good offices of the WSR now current CME. My understanding is that this exact shade does not equate directly to a BS spec.

Hurrah! Here we go again the infamous livery debate has kicked off again:Resistanceisfutile:! Seriously though North Road [Darlington] LNER Green was a slightly different shade to that from The Plant [Doncaster]. Mind you and this is going back to the S & D 150 event in 1975, the left hand pair of leading bogie wheels on none other than 4472 Flying Scotsman were different shades of green too:eek:. One of the Flying Scotsman support crew had a right set to with one of the NELPG members as their stand was right beside 'Scotsman about the K1 [6]2005 being in LNER green. OK they went their separate ways, but as the day wore on the NELPG member noticed the colour difference of the aforementioned bogie wheels. Which didn't go down well next day with 'Scotsmans minder when it was pointed out:Hissyfit::Chillout:.
