I can't see the engine being scrapped, dismantled is a more likely outcome, the wheels, cylinders, and a few other bits probably have more value in their current state than scrap.

True but you'd have to find buyers for any useful bits and that may take time. If one needs to release some cash quickly scrapping may be the only answer. The price paid for steel scrap is quite low at the moment which may be bad news for Stuart but it does seem to have reduced the number of scrap thefts.

It's not really that useful in terms of parts either! Maybe just the chimney and the tank! The wheels were swapped from AB 2354, So the best parts are already long gone!

I don't know the loco but I guess that with a dummy boiler it could have been a perfectly adequate static exhibit somewhere, maybe a gate guardian or something. Not everything needs to be restored to steam and there are more than enough 0-4-0 tanks as it is.

Our hero is back after the debacle with the sleeping coach / Barclay/ inspection coach underframe. Now the decks are cleared and all three are returned to service he has now launched an appeal for the internet's favourite diesel. The text from Facebook is below:

    https://www.facebook.com/Class-45-45015-110376343796266/

Aim is to restore 45015 as much as can be even if it means sticking a engine from a different class of diesel in her to make her eventually a runner.

First port of call would be to clean her up making her look more presentable then do the work so atleast we could move her from her current resting place while making her safe for transport and tackling that asbestos problem also.

Dig deep people. This ie the big one!

I am surprised FB allows him to continue on with his efforts, as whatever funds he raised in the past, must have been done on an unlawful basis, were they ever returned?????

You would have thought that he would have learned his lesson, particularly about asbestos, but it seems not. I'll pass, thanks...

That assumes that any of his appeals has actually raised a penny: I’m not sure there is any evidence of that, is there?

It has been mentioned before that £££ has been raised from unsuspecting souls, and was forwarded onto the next "project".

That being the case, I am surprised the fuzz have not been involved.

However, as long as projects, ahem, are brought up, the same will happen.....

I wonder how much 'they' are paying him to take it off their hands. Must be worth a couple of grand to get rid of the responsibility for it.:)

Wasn't the technique last time to get it on a low-loader then not pay the firm who promptly impounded it?...

Aw, I'd hoped he was going to bag himself a pacer.

Also, how is he not in jail yet? How did the asbestos coach saga end?

Are 45's particularly charismatic locomotives? I can't say I ever thought them particularly attractive, but I'm properly not an expert on diesels, and I've never quite fathomed why some classes are more popular than others. Is the 45 a winner, or as I suspect, one of the dinner ladies of the rails?
There's 11 others in preservation-would there be any practical use or need for a twelfth? They must be 22 tons axle load, which would be double red and limit the places they can run. What is the diesel equivalent of big chufferitis. Big chuggeritis?

45015 is the only survivor of the first batch of class 45s, so it would have had split headcode boxes and doors in the nose originally. I suppose that makes it slightly more interesting than other ones. It doesn't have those features any more though. Things it also doesn't have include, radiators, electrical cubicle, brake frame, most of the engine, a serviceable generator. It is also known to have asbestos around the steam heat boiler which is the only reason it hasn't been scrapped already.

The engine could be swapped for one from a class 47 but all the electrical equipment especially things like the reverser and field diverters are unique to the Class 45.

He's basically bought another liability, he'll never have to resources to make it run again and I doubt he'll even be able to afford the asbestos removal to cut it up either.
