It's very reassuring to know that in this age of uncertainty, such things still endure. I've a mind to sample it for myself!

I see that track has started to be laid at Snapper Halt. Before anyone gets too excited it is an isolated section just for show.

Odd things reverberate through time for no apparent reason.
Back in the dim and distant past, when I was still at school and just getting interested in railways, I found the classic "History of Southern Railway" by Dendy Marshall on the shelves of the school library, and "borrowed" it permanently.
At the back of the book was an index of stations closed by the SR. One of the names which jumped out at me, mainly because of its strangeness, was Snapper Halt, and it was this name which was part instrumental in getting me interested in the Lynton and Barnstaple in the first place, picturing an obscure and empty platform in the middle of nowhere, already some 40 years vanished from the railway map of Great Britain, ploughed up or reclaimed by nature, its name forgotten.
Yet 45 years on, here we are looking at Snapper today as if it were still 1935. I must go there soon, walk down that shady path from the road, and sit on the bench in the sunlight, listening to the Devon birdsong.
Maybe we could even DSC_1448-1024x578.jpg take my old HMV portable gramophone along, and party like its 1935!

It really is a wonderful sight to see I must say, truly looks like the whole place was just frozen in time. I'd quite fancy visiting Snapper Halt myself sometime I reckon, though if I did, a part of me would be wondering how long I'd have to wait for the next train... ;)

My Mum's a Geordie who would often tell me off as a kid "don't just stand there like a stookie!" So maybe it really is a more nationwide term?

When is Lyn running? Is it is regular service or just high days & holidays?

    What's a shame?

I noticed on Facebook that the planning variation for works on bridges 54 and 55 was approved - and that work may start on that section south of Blackmoor Gate soon-ish?

IIRC it was a comment about the next carriage to be restored/rebuilt. Not sure why it was requested to be removed, it's hardly a state secret! The quote on Facebook also seems to have disappeared (or at least I can't find it now!)

guess Lyn or Isaac are servicable and taking turns running?
Did Axe get a new boiler certificate or not

There are currently no problems with either LYN and ISAAC, both engines are operational at this time. The boiler certificate for AXE expired last month (May 2019) and this locomotive is currently undergoing its 10 year service. It is not expected that anything major will be found.

The reason the L&BR Trust asked the user to remove their recent post on this discussion forum was because the information had been obtained from the Members Only Area of the L&B's website. The purpose of which is - where possible - to provide the latest and most significant news to those who support the L&B financially, i.e the members of the L&B Trust.

Had this news been intended for general distribution, it would have been published on the front page of the L&BR Trust website and not in the restricted members area.

When made aware of some of the other facts - not published - the poster very kindly removed their post, our thanks to him for doing so.

If you want to know more, why not join the L&BR Trust by going to https://www.lynton-rail.co.uk/page/join-lb-trust-online-today .

I'm not sure this is the best tactic to recruit new members.

Well, I dont necessarily think that there is anything wrong with the idea of those who put up the money getting the news first

There was a good reason for the information to remain out of the public domain for the time being. When this was explained to me, it made perfect sense.
I won't say any more, but I guess all will become apparent in the fullness of time.

There must be something in the water down that neck of the woods, theres another railway not a million miles away from this railway which sometimes seems to adopt a similar attitude.
